and Mrs. illiam MacMillan, Wood Islands, assemble" at their home for the purpose of saying farewell to Mrs. MacMillan before leaving for Dartmouth, N.S., where slic in- tends making her home in the future.

Mr. William MacMlllan, who holds a splendid position on the S. S. Aramnore, finding that it would be more convenient for him to live in Dart/oath, NS, decided to make his home there. When this had been agreed upon’ Mrs. Nac- Milian went to join her husband there. she was accompanied by her youngest daughter, Thelma. For the present the other members of the family are remaining on P. E. Island. After all the guests of the evening had arrived Mr. Murdock

Yes, Mrs. Maclvlillan, our dear friend, it has recently been brought home to us with a shock that you are soon to take your departure from amongst us.

Having become acsuainied with

this fact, we your friends and neighbors felt that we could not ai- low you to go away without trying to tell you in some meagre way how much we have appreciated having you in our midst? and also to let you know that we shall miss you sorely when you shall have gone away. Throughout the whole course of your life you have been a friend to all, and in times of sickness and trial you never spared yourself- You were ever at the beck and 01111 of all who were in need. And not only shall we feel your loss keenly but we shall also miss all of the members of your family who are now at your home here with you. Your family is one of which you may be justly proud. we have en- joyed having all of them among our number. And while some o! them are remaining behind just for the present, we fear that in the not far distant future they shall so to join you in your new home.

Excitement at Birth

1n the early hours of the morn- ing of June 23, i804, the Prince was born. Jumping into the saddle, the horseman rode furiously into London, a few miles down the mamas, shouting as he went, "a Prince! A Prince!"

But London itself already had the news by telegraph, by the time work peoplahad set out for their shops and desks the bells of nearly all the churches through the rolling green countryside of England‘ were ringing a. gladsome

clamation.

Public Enthusiasm

The public enthusiasm for the Prince which began that day as a national thing grew to be inter- national. His popularity knows no boundaries, and is shared heartily by millions of people who do not speak his language or know any- thing much about the Empire. Queen Victoria was not present at the birth of her great-grandson, but she was one of the first to go to see him. She was staying at

BIBS. DOUGALD STEWART Shortly before the close of the reading of the address Miss Gladys Blown came forward and presented Mrs. MacMillan with a beautiful leather handbag with a upper fast- ening. Although taken ‘wholly by surprise Mrs. MacMillan retained her usual composure and in a neat little speech thanked her friends for their very beautiful gift. All then joined in singing “For She's a Jolly Good Fellow." ' Short addresses were then made by Messrs lvlurdock McPhee, Wen- dall MacMillan and Hugh Mac- Kinnon. The remainder of the evening was spent in contests, games, music and social intercourse. A dainty lunch was served by the ladies. Just before the gathering broke up, all joined hands and sang Auld Lang Syne followed by the singing of God Be With You Till We Meet Again" and the Na- tional Anthem.

At West Covchead ‘Iihursday, Jan. 9th, there passed to her reward Mrs. Emma Crosby, widow of the late Hammond Crosby of Cornwall at the age of 69 years. Her husband passed 0n before nearly 16 years ago. Mrs. Crosby was a daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Boyle, loyal members of Cornwall Church. She lived for some years at Meadowbank on the farm now owned by Mr. Colin D. MacPhail, and after the death of her hus- band removed to her cozy cottage near the school at Cornwall. She

For the past few years she spent part of the winter with her daughter Hazel, Mrs. Clayton Matthew at Oovehead. This past summer she did not feel as well a1’ usual but managed her own household duties until three weeks before her de.’.‘.'n when she was taken to Covehead and cared for tenderly by her daughter, Dr. Pierce and Miss Ella Simpson, RN, 5'50 waited upon her during her last illness. The Prince is 41 years old but he looks younger, sometimes his face seems almost boyish. He is of med. ium height and of well-knit, slim, build. His hair is golden and he is clean shaven with features some- what aquiline.

Keen, intelligent-looking, he is as shrewd and observant as he appears to be. Very little that goes on about him eludes his notice, and he poss- esses in marked degree the facility of remembering what he sees.

He is happiest when riding to hounds or playing polo.

The Prince has won several prizes ill poiiit-to-point steeplechases, and has also received some hard knocks.
