Sous Swipwents.—On Saturday last Mr. David Keefe, of St. John, shipped from here, by the Northumberland, twenty head of fat Mr. Johan Macdonald of the same ‘ity, shipped fourteen head, and Mr. John Leyden, of the same place, shipped nine head. Tur Mrramicn1 —The steamer Miramichi artived here on her first trip this season this morning at five o'clock, with a large cargo of general merchandise. On the trip down, as already stated, the shaft broke when off Gaspe end she was towed into that place. From there she was towed to Summerside and thence to this port by the tug boat St, Law- rence. Her passengers were landed at Gaspe and came on by train. The Miramichi will leave here this afternoon for Pictou where her shait will be repaired.

Free at Hatrrax.—A fire occurred at Halifax on Monday night in the three- story brick bui'ding on Hollis Street, own- ed by the Queen Hotel Company. The fire started in the workroom of Ruggles’ tailuring shop, and to extinguish it the building had to be drenched with water Ruggles had his steck insured to cover damage, Cahili’s hair-dreasing parlors were flooded with water. Loss also cover- ed by insurance. The building ie not much damaged, except by water.

Tue Rine —At the Arena, Coney Island Athletic Club, on Monday, an international prize fight took place for a purse of $2,000, between Tommy Kelly of Harlem, cham- pion 110 pound man of America, and Billy Plimmer, champion of that weight in Eng- land. The men were iu good condition. Kelly was counted out in the 10th round.

A number of St. John sports are forming a club to visit New Orleans in September next, to witness the Corbett-Sullivan battle. The party, which will number 25, intend leaving St. John in a special Pull- man car, attached to a regular train.

Tue Covay.—-The steamer Coban arrived here this forenoon, with a large general cargo and a goodly number of passengers. The same capteio and officers as last year are in charge. She will leave for St. John’s via Sydney this evening about six o'clock, with a good cargo of general merchandize, and i4 horses, 50 head of cattle and 30 sheep on deck. The horses were shipped by Allen McPhee, Joba Wheatley, Long Bros. and Geo. G. Crosby; the sheep and cattle by Barrett Henderson. Messrs W. D. Le- Boutelier and A'len Parsons go as passenzers to Sydney and Mr. Geo, G. Crosby goes to St. John.

Potice Court.—This morning a lad named Weatherbie, zleven years of age, was given twenty days imprisonment for assault end battery on an old woman named Cann, living on Chestnut Street, and another young lad, ten years old, for being implicated in the transaction was fined fifty cents and costs. One of the young fellows charged with maliciously in- jaring the property of S. F. Hodgson, was arrested this morning and remanded until Friday, pending the arrest of the other young fellow, for whom a warrant was also issued. A summons for another young man said to be mixed up inthe affair was issued to-day, and is returnable on Friday.
