out by Dr. Edward 1". l-Iartring in Hygela, occurs only when a person is exposed to three climatic con- ditions st the some time. (1) sun- light, (2) highly humid atmosphere (air full of water or moisture) and (3) absolutely no breeze or movement of air.

Now the body has its own thermostat and keeps the blood al- ways at the same temperature—in the cool weather it holds the lioatin the body. and in the hot weather it gets rid of heat. by perspiration which is then absorbed into the air from the surface of the body. Now if the air is already full of water when perspiration comes out on the surface of the body. natur- ally the air will not absorb this perspiration because it is already full of watdr and can absorb very little, if any, of the perspiration from the skirt.

"Bimst.roke, theireforo. is usually due to an interference with this evaporation of perspiration from the skin. It is usually due to the fact that the victim's body con- tains ao little water that he does not persplre freely enough, that the surrounding air is so humid (wit) that what perspiration he does produce will not evaporate, and that the air is so still, without a breeze, so that what evaoration doesoccur is slow and small in amount."

To prevent sunstioke. avoid ex- posure to the direct heat rays of the sun by ' eeping the head caver- ed. The old fashioned habit of car- rying parsols was thus good sense as it prevented exposure to the sun. but did not obstruct any breeze. The second point in prevention is to drink plenty of water. The ad- dition of a pinch of salt with each glass of water. helps to hold water in the tissues.

The third point is to keep the skin clean so that excess oil on the skin will not prevent free par- spiration.

Finally, a little brass or draft is helpful; an electric fan may be a. life-saver
