So many people in our times have been insisting that "religion is for life, not for death." This may have been a necessary reaction pgglnat a past emphasis on the idea that to be prepared for death iiiis life's chief aim. It is a safe guess that people who talk in this way have never faced death as in immediate possibility. But it is folly thus to set life and death iiver against each other. Life is one. The Christian salvation is ini: life and for death and for what is beyond death. Man is immortal and his life is one and the same through all its changing phases.

It is here that Christ's t 1” touches our human need most closely. 1-1e.sald to a friend in the first anguish of bereavement:-"I am the, resurrection and the life: he who believes in me, though he illP, yet shall he live, and who- ever lives and believes in me shall never die." Life is the main thought here: resurrection is only its final stage. All throush Hit uaching. takes place; then the, butterfly. But it is the same life in unbroken continuity through all these changes. and its full glory appears only in its final form. so it is with the divine life in the soul of man.

There is the new birth, the awakening of the soul to its divine environment, then follows the Christian life and service in the world, than death when life disappears but under which the greatest change takes place; then the resurrection, when. as St. John puts it. Christ shall appear, ahd we shall be like Him for we shall see Him as He is.

It is in this sense that religion is for life-life in all its fullness, life with the long outlook. As Longfellow puts it: "There is no death; what seems so its transi- tion." It was with this in view that Christ said: "I am come that they may have life, and have it abundantly." It has been said that a boy's religion should be differ- ent from his grandfather's; that is, it should fit into a boy's inter- ests and aspirations and meet head-on on a boy's needs. But the youth, wisely advised and ready to listen to advice, always has before him "the kind of man he wants to be" The way he uses the opportunities of youth will de- termine thee strength and resources

of his manhood and his fitness to,

grapple with the problems, that will meet him in the type of work he chooses. V .

We all know lots of boys. as mischievous and full fun any in the land. who nevert eless, take the long view of life. 'who accept (perhaps grumblingly) the discipline that requires them to subject their love of pleasure to the education and. training that only youth can acquire, and who move steadily forward to the ob- jective they have made their own. It has been said that pleasure is like your shadow: Pursue it, and it will flee from you; turn from it. and it will follow like I. dog at your heels. It is just the same with the long view of life which Jesus took-the outlook which reaches into the eternitles. It is the vitality that is overflowing because conscious of a.i-elationship that nothing we know can break. It provides all the pleasure thtit we are capable of enjoying. but that pleasure is an effect, not a cause-s means to an and, but not life's chief and. That means efficiency on one's hosen work. It means using the world to the full. but without abus- ing it. A couple of young men built a fire-place in our summer cottage, and.did it in such a spirit and with such superb efficiency that they lifted our whole ideal of ability and fidelity in service. In the long View of life, no service is "humble"; everything that man does for man can serve the eternal.

The residents of Head of Hills- boroluzh and vicinity Iwere sad- dened to learn of the passing oi one of their most iespected citi- zens. Mrs. Calvin Cameron; net Euphsmia Leckett Douglas, in her 76th year, on June 27.

"Phemle", as she was familiar- ly known, was born at Cherry Hill in 1877, daughter of the late Benjamin Douglas and his wife Jemima Coffin where she resided until her marriage in 1901.

Being possessed of a quiet un- assuming manner, her love oil home and deep interest in com- munity and church affairs endear- ed her to all with whom she came in contact. She will long be re- membered for her sterling prin-

Ella, Ernest and Beatrice at home; also seven grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Henry Cof- fin of Mt. Stewart, Mrs. Everett Anderson of South,Bosion, Mass.. And Mrs. Frank Farquharson of Canavoy. Her husband predeceas- ed her three years ago.

Her funeral, which was largely attended, was held from her late residence on June 30. Service at the house and grave was conduct- ed by Rev. Mr. MacNaughton of Mt. Stewart Presbyterian Church. of which Mrs. Cameron was a member, assisted by Rev. Mr. By- ers of Mt. Stewart United Church. Hymns sung were "Unto The Hills". "Nearer My God To Thee".
