If they did so, we should have no more cases of missing money letters. The nuinber of persons who still send money in wnregistered letters is almost incredible ; but those who will still risk it in that way do not deserve any sympathy when they meet with a loss which they could so easily

avoid by obtaining a money order.

Model Farm Buildings.

‘fur Commissioners have decided that new farm buildings should be erected on the Medei farm ; and, we ave glad to learn, the Government are deliberating about the

matter. Plans and specitications of the farm buildings ereeted by the late Hon. (ivorge Brown are, we understand, under consideration, and are likely, with some modifications, to be adopted., Lt is, indeed, pleasing to learn that a Government of this agricultural Province are, at last, giving particular attention to the improye- weut of agriculture. To obtain an increase of thoroughbred farm stock, especially eattle and sheep, should be our first care ; and it is a pity that, for want of good buildings, those now in possession of the Governinent cannot be well cared for, and their number increased to meet the increas- ing wants of farmers in all parts of the

FReQvENT inquiries have been made during the last few weeks as to the time and place of running of the good steamer Nev. This boat is supposed to run—and, for @ught we know to the contrary, does run-— weekly between Pictou, Georgetown, Souris, and the Magdalen islands, for the purpose of carrying mails, passengers and freight. Of the service, which this steamer is well paid te perform, the publie is kept in comparative ignorance, merely to save the few dollars und cents it wonld cost to udvertise. She is said to leave Pictou every Wednesday on arrival of the morn- ing train frem Halifax. Her arrival at (igorgetown was looked for some time dur- ing the same day ; and at Souris she was expected to put in an appearance some tine during the night, say about twelve o'clock ~a very convenient time, indeed, for the public. As her arrival was uncertain, her

Chariotistown to Let— (Continued) To the Editor of the Evainiiner.

Mr. Hprror,— Perhaps the diction of my hirst letter is too qilaint, and some of the matter too ancient to suit the taste of many of your numerous readers. A few others will probably object neither to the quaint- ness ner antiquity of the matter. The latter class of people will be found among the eldest of your pairons. Most of these know of what I write. I could mention a thousand other reminiscences of Charlotte- town, which took place between 1847 and 1860 which would make the ears of our young men tingle, if they take any interest the past events and condition of their native town, But to enumerate all these would be to write a liistory of Charlottetown dur- ing the thirteen years referred to. This { may do if spared a little longer. In this letter [ inust contine myself to the main ob- ject 1 had first in view.

As stated in my former letter, we have, in this town, a few factories which are a credit to the enterprising mechanics who established them, and a direct benefit to the country. Of these factories, five of the principal ones are in active operation. Six or seven others are working on «a more limited scale. About as many more, which at one time existed, have gone down from several canses. | prefer .not to mention the names of the parties immediately con- cerned in these three classes of factories, for, todo so. would be considered invidi- ous to some of them.

Now, what we want, in addition to the factories now at work in Charlottetown, is others of a different kind, and which the changes and circumstances of the times re- quire.

In different parts of the*country, enter- prising men have formed. themselves into companies, and are establishing starch fac- tories. Others have established lobster factories several years ago, and new ones are still springing up. | know of no fac- tory that has yet failed, although one, at least, has passed threugh a fiery erdeal, to one of our foremost Charlottetown Fur- niture Factories.

The ostensible cause assigned for estalb- lishing starch and lobster factories in out of the way cotntry places is, that there the raw materials are nicar at hand, and must, theretore, be more easily and cheaply pro- cured. ‘This is only partially, if all true. But above ail, the town possesses a centricity which no coun try locality can enjoy. This alone is a most important element in the success of any tactory.
