After they had told some friends about their project, they decided to make a button.

Happy Birthday Useless buttons featuring a caricature of a smiling, Right Honourable PET, sold for $1 at the U of Toronto. Nasimok'and colleague Rob Nickerson said they received a very positive response.

‘But Nasimok says buttons were only half of the campaign and suggested some useless activities to commemorate the day are: "applying for a job, buying the Toronto Sun, attending a class."

The highlight ‘of the day was a Useless Day Parade through the uni- versity where Naskmok and friends drove down the street in an unmarked car. "The thing that makes it useless is that no one will know which car is in the parade."

Mary McGowan, commun— ications director for th the Ontario Liberal Party, declined to comment on SPUD. "As the Li3"2eral Party does not respond to political cartoons or to revues at the Limelight Theatre, we see no need to respond to political satire of this nature."

That's the word from researcher Richard Hall, who told a meeting of the American Chemical Assoc. that pesticides and food additives are safer than many natural foods. For instance, says Hall, carrots contain a potent nerve poison and halluc— inogenic chem—ic—a—ls, shrimp have arsenic, and potatoes have something similar to nerve gas.

In fact, he says, if some of those "natural" chemicals were submitted to the American Food and Drug Administration for approval, they wouldn't

pass .
