"You cant do that.’ repeated Roddy Fox Junior in the young Chuck grinning down at hkn from s crotch of a tree.

"I did it, didn't 1? why don't, you do it?" retorted tlhe young Chuck in the most provoking manner.

"But Chucks can't climb. Any- way. I didn't know they can." said the young Fox.

"Neither did I" young Chuck.

"What?" cried Reddy Junior.

The young Chuck chuckled. "It! a fact" he declared. "I never climbed a tree before, I had no idea I could. I never thought of trying it. Then you came along and gave me the scare of my life, and here I am up here in a tree. Now that I'm here I rather like it. I guess what I have heard said is true."

“What is that?" asked the young FOX.

"That no one knows what he can or cannot do until he tries." re- plied bhe Chudk.

The young Fox looked up at wilat only a few minutes before he had thought of as a toothsome dinner of which he was as sure as he could be of anything. Now it was no longer a dinner, but a pro- voking young Chuck who had sud- denly learned that he could climb "L: you can climb perhaps I can" said the Fox.

“Don't try it!” cried the young Chuck hastily. "You wouldn't like it up here."

The young Fox stood up on his hind feet and titled to climb up in the tree. He didn't get anywhere at all. He tried backing o1‘! s short distance then running and jump- ing s.s high on the tree as he could. He couldn't hold on and fell w the flahrnduMeanwhile the frightened Chuck climbed a little higher. The young Fox tried two or three times more, tlhan gave up trylnir.

"You cficlimb and r can!" jerred the young Ohuok.

"But I can wait for you to come down." retorted Reddy Junior. l-le sat down as 1a he intended to stay right. there.

"It is nice here. Come one up." teased the Chuck.

The young Fox said nothing and the Chuck kept still. After a while he began to be uncornd table. He was used to the sround, not to l-‘liflzills to a round. hard surface.
