Pians For Polio Vaccine Clinics

Shaping Up

-The Department of lieniul and Welfare is completing arrange- ments ior polio clinics to be held in-the Charlottetown and Slim- inerside schools and as rural centres. Polio vaccine will be available for Grade 1 pupils only. Three inoculations are necessary and the first will be given during

the first week in April. the second

two weeks after the first. and the third four weeks after the second.

They are being started early so that protection will be built up before the usual polio season commences.

The inoculations against polio are not compulsory in any way and the Grade 1 pupils will be

given these only on the request of their parents. Request forms and information sheets will be sent to the teachers to be forwarded to the parents. also the date and place of the clinic centre which their Grade 1 pupils should at- tend. The signed consent of a par- ut must be presented by each child at the first clinic before re- ceiving the polio vaccine.

The rural clinics will be region- al centres for several ausI'0llIldlDg schools, and it is hoped that someone in each district will make sure that transportation is available for all Grade 1 pupils so that no one will be denied the op- portunity of receiving the polio inoculations because of lack of transportation.

VANCOUVER (CP)-Robert W. Service won't be at the Yukoners' banquet and ball here March 12, but the famous poet of the Klan- dike scnt some verse to be read.

Now 02 and living in the Riviera. the man whose racy poems im- inortalised the sourdoughs of gold rush days, wrote from his home in Monte Carlo. He said that "at eighty-two." his new poem, will be included in a book-"Songs of n Centenaire"-to be published in 1974, the 100th anniversary of his birth.

The March meeting of the Reads Corner Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Bradford Cairns with the Presi- dent. Mrs. Wyman Cairns in the chair. Fourteen members answer- ed roll call. One new member joined and there were three visi- tors. The meeting opened with singing the Ode and repeating the Creed.

The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. Corres- pondence was read which con- sisted of a letter from Miss Robin asking for good used clothing for Korea. Mrs. Robert Schurman kindly consented to pack the box. a letter from Miss Lawson. Presi- dent C.A.C. asking the Institute to join. 310.00 was voted to the Red Cross Drive which is to be held this month. Goods from a department store were received. The two quilts were finished and are to be given to the Red Cross.

The sick committee reported making several sick calls and two treats were taken. Mrs. Alfred Matheson and Mrs. Ray Woodside were appoint J on the new sick committee. Collection amounted to C500.

The next meeting is to be at the home of Mrs. Francis Mac- Quarrie with Mrs. Helen Clark.
