A Philadelphia paper says that the churches of that city pay less for music thar do any others in the principal cities of the United States. It is estimated that nearly $200,000 is expended an- nually upon the choirs of the 662 churches of Philadelphia, which would show a cost for each choir of about $300 a year. The paper asserts, however, that the majority of the choirs do uot cost even that amount, and that the cases are very rare where orgavists are paid $1,000 or over, and solo singers more than $500 or $600.
