- NOTICES Performance of Indian Classical Dances to raise funds for earthquake vic- tims in India

To raise funds in aid of earthquake victims in India, the Indo-Canadian Association of Prince Edward Island is organizing a performance of Indian classical dances at Carrefour de L’Isle- Saint-Jean in Hillsborough Park on November 27 (Saturday), 7:00 pm. Ms. Nova Dickson from Toronto will perform Bharatnatyam, the classical temple dance of southern India, and her sister, Ms. Scotia Bhattacharya from Van- couver, will perform Odissi, the well-known classical dance from the Orissa state of eastern India. Both Nova and Scotia are highly ac- claimed classical Indian dancers.

Indo-Canadian Association will also serve Indian food and sweets to the ticket holders at a reception to be held after the dance perform- ances. The price of admission is only fifteen dollars. Tickets are available from the U.P.E.I. book store and from all five Tim Horton Donuts restaurants in Charlottetown. Tickets will not be sold at the door on the night of the perform- ances.

Death by Three

The UPEI Theatre Society presents an evening of one-act plays: ‘“The Golden Fleece,’’ written by A.R. Gurney and directed by Laurel Smyth; “The Sandbox,’’ written by Edward Albee and directed by Craig Blair; and *‘The Waiting Room,’” written and directed by Sharon Leighton. Performance is at 8pm, Nov. 19, 20, and 21 in the Steel Recital Hall. Tickets are available at the door: $5 for seniors and stu- dents, $8 for others.

Help your university to measure its role in the economy of the island

A study of the economic impact of UPEI on the Island economy is currently being carried out by the Department of Economics. A major component of the study consists of a student expenditure survey. Your help is needed to make this survey as accurate as possible.

Over the next three weeks, a sample of students will be contacted by telephone by a research assistant and asked to complete a short questionnaire, taking only a few minutes of your time. The sample of students will remain confidential and the completed questionnaires will be treated anonymously.

Home Ec Happenings

Did you know that people in Home Economics get the same degree as all you other science geeks in biology, chemistry and physics? To graduate from UPEI with a major in Home Ec. we have to take Chemistry 110, Biology 120, Microbiology 331, and Organic Chemistry 241. If you thought all we do is cook and sew, get a life! I can’t sew yet, and my cooking is ques-

tionable (ask my boyfriend.and the fire depart- ment), but Ican give you the Lewis structure for asugar molecule. Don’t get me wrong... Ilove Home Economics. We learn all sorts of neat stuff, like...do you know why the Bikini is called the Bikini, or how many calories are in that bag of chips you scarfed down last night? Ask me, or one ofthe other women ormen inthe Home Ec. Society.

Tickets are going on sale this week for great prizes. Youcan win food. DidI mention youcan win FOOD? First prize is a wooden carousel (valued at $80), second prize is dinner for two at Myron’s, Third prize is a box of chocolates from Island chocolates, and Fourth prize is an Ice-Cream cake from Dairy Queen. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and can be purchased from any home ec. society member or from Jannie in | Dalton Hall (go in main doors and turn right).

November 27 the Home Economics Society is participating in an eighteen-hour famine to raise money for the Upper Room. We are looking for pledges, or food donations. Come up to the lounge in Dalton Hall third floor and chat for a while.

There was a type-o in last week’s article concerning the semester end blowout (we all know its nickname, D.B.D.). The correct date for this ‘‘Scrooge’’ event is Thursday , Decent ber 16.
