MARITIMES NEST RECORDS SCHEME. Members of the Natural History Society are once again encouraged to contribute reports of nesting birds to the Nest Records Scheme located in Sackville, N.B. Island contributions have been down somewhat during the last few years, so the Natural History Society has decided to offer a series of prizes to stimulate_ interest in nest reporting. Nest record cards are available from the Newsletter Editor and should be returned to the Natural History Society, % S3 Fitzroy St., Charlottetown by Se t. 15, 1981. The cards will then be forwarded to Sackville by October Ist. The list of prizes to be awarded follows: first prize - most species second prize -’a) earliest nest, b) latest nest third prize - most records with known nest outcome fourth prize - most nest records fifth prize - special prizes awarded for nests of species new to P.E.I. in the Nest Records Scheme holdings To help out those who might be interested in the special prizes for new species, some worthy candidates are given below. These birds are listed as breeding on the P.E.I. Bird Checklist but do not appear on the 1979 (the most recent year available) M.N.R.S. list for P.E.I. Sharp-shinned Hawk, Ring-necked Pheasant, Virginia Rail, Barred Owl, Short-eared Owl, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Hairy Woodpecker, Least Flycatcher, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Gray Jay, Brown Creeper, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Northern Parula, Magnolia Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Palm Warbler, Rusty Blackbird, Lincoln's Sparrow.

WILSON ORNITHOLOGICAL SOCIETY. The Canadian Wildlife Service, Mount Allison University

and the Chignecto Naturalists' Club will co-host the 62nd Annual Meeting of the Wilson Ornithological Society, to be held June 4-7, 1981 at Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick. This will mark only the

second time this international body has met

in Canada. The conference begins with registration On Thursday, June 4, followed

by a wine and cheese reception that evening. Friday starts with a choice of early morning field trips to Amherst Point Bird Sanctuary

or Ram Pasture Salt Marsh. Following a business meeting the remainder of the morning and afternoon will be devoted to papers sessions. A lobster boil, films and a midnight excursion to listen for rails will wind up the day's activities. Saturday's events begin with early morning field trips to Amherst Point Bird Sanctuary or the Upper Bay of Fundy Shore. Paper sessions continue throughout the day, followed by the annual banquet and awards presentation. On Sunday the conference will conclude with two all day field trips to Fundy National Park or to P.E.I. to visit Cape Tryon and the National Park. The registration fee for the conference is $18.00.
