An outs:anding exhibition of work by Maritime artists was of- ficially opened last evening at Prince of Wales College by His Honor. Lieutenant-Governor F.W. Hyndman.

Also present at the opening were his Honor, Premier A.W. Mattheson and Mayor E.C. Johns- tone and Mrs. Johnstone. Attend- ing the Lieutenant Governor was his aide Lt.-Cmdr. Douglas Saun- ders.

The exhibition of 29 paintings includes three works by Island artists: "Stanhope Beach" by H. Barry Bugden; “Old Favorites" by Glad Ellis, and “The Blue Wil-

During the opening ceremony Mrs. B. Ellis, president of the P. E. I. Art Society, presented a magnificent painting of “Still Life” to Premier Mtheson. a gift from the Maritime Art Associa— tion, to the people of this pro- Vince.

The painting, in oils, is the work of Rosamund Campbell of Saint John. N. B., and was selected by the judges as one of the top three works in tlu’s year’s exhibition.

In presenting the painting, Mrs. Ellis voiced the hope of the M.A. A.. that it would be placed in a permanent collection. in a pub- lic place. for the enjoyment of the people of Prince Edward Island. TOUR MARITIMES

The travelling eIdIIibitIim was assembled in Saint John, N.B., and will tour the Maritime Pro- vinces during the winter months.

Each of t h e distinguished guests expressed his pleasure at the quality of the work shown. and Dr. Frank MacKIinnon closed the official opening by com plimenti-ng the Island mists whose work was included.

After viewing the Maritime Art Association exhibition the guests moved on to other rooms in which was hung an exhibition of local work. -

Almost 40 in number, in all media, these paintings compare favorably with the work of the artists in the other Maritime Pro-

vmces.

Both exhibitions are supervised by Miss Eleanor Lowe who was seen at work last evening as she coached the weekly class of stu- dent artists.

With one more week to go in the present course, these art classes, sponsored by the P.E.I. Art Society, have proved very pop- ular, and will be continued early in the new year.

The exhibitions, now open to the public, will remain on view for
