A Private Letter Signed by Archbishop Begin to the Priests of Quebec Diocese,
Quesec, January 18.—Through a great deal of eutorprise some newspaper men managed on Saturday to get hold of a strictly private letter intended for the priests of the diocese of Quevec in reference to the Manitoba School Settlement. The documeut was signed by Archbishop Begin, coadjutor to Cardinal Taschereau. ‘the following are extracts from the fir-t part of the letter :
“No bishop will, nor can approve the so- called settlement of the Manitoba school question which definitely rests only upon ibe unjustifiable abandonment of the best established and most sacred rights of the Catholic minority.”
‘Mgr. Langevin’s energetic protest against this settlement was in accordance with the direction of the Holy Father.”
“This is not the time to examine this settlement in its various articles, but what I have already said and written is suffizient for you to conclude that I absvlutely disap- prove of it.
“ Following the example led by other bishop: of the Dominion with a view to coming to the aid of our brethren of Mani- toba, until justice is rendered tothem, 1 ask $5 fiom each curate, $2 from each mssicpary, vicar and college professor, and $10 from each religious community. The money should be sent to me before Lent.”
The letter erjuins on the cures ‘o con- demn the Laurier settlement of the Mani- tuba schools whenever consulted on the subject by the faithful. The letter was not read in the churches on Sunday, but was reserved for the priests and curates alone. Doctors Were Unable to Agree as to His Trouble—-He Was Almost a Physical Wreck When Relief Came.

Mr. Geo. Seney, who resides near Mount Pleasant, Durham county, Ont., is a man well known throughout the county. He is the owner of the Seney House in.
