DEBATING SOCIETY

We know you’re out there. All of you who want to improve yourselves, who wantto get into law school, or who just want to be able to speak in public without wetting yourself. You are all potential debaters.

The debating society here on campus has held its first two meetings and already we have had a couple of great debates. One of these started off with a resolution that ‘‘This is the first day of the rest of your life.’’ The ‘‘government’’ side decided this meant that only women should be allowed to vote in all Canadian elections -- and the argument was on. Another resolution, ‘‘Do unto others,’’ was translated into a discussion about whether or not there should be a set number of ‘‘female’’ seats in the revised Canadian Senate.

As youcan see, the topics that are debated are ones that anyone with two feet and a heartbeat would know SOME-

THING about. There is no research required, no membership fee and no obligation to come to every meeting. We are om gi ae \ JUST;

planning to attend several tournaments, along with possibly hosting our own tournament for other Maritime universities. There will be sessions at each meeting on public speaking, logic training, speech writing, and, of course, debates, debates, debates!

Our meetings are held every Monday from 4:30 to 6:00PM, :
