Teams from the Montague Company (No. 5) and Nol and 2 Companies 4ta Regi, C A, were entered for the 40-lb gun shift. No5, under Capt W A Johnstone did the ehift first, and elicited applause from the spectators. Their time was 3 min 10sec. Nol, under Capt Rartlett, was next. Thetime was 3 min 9 sec. No 2, under Lieut Peake did the shift in 3 min 7 sec, and weretnus winners of the competition.

There was one event that was epecially interesting, because it was something new in Island athletics and because in itself it 18 one Of the best of ali contests. This wae the relay race. The cnly tzams entered were one from No.1 Co. Artillery and one from No.2 Co. Artillery. The race was a mile of four laps, and the following were the runners of each quarter, the first being of No i Co and the second of No2 Co:— DA McKinnon and J B Hughes; Leslie Adams and L McIutyre; B Huggan and Bethune; 0 J McMillanaod P A Duffy.

No 1 Co won the race. The first pair came in together. Adams of the second pa'r gained a great lead on Mclutyre which Bethune lessened when he and Huggan ran. The last pair ran the best race of the day. CJ McMillan was in hisold form. Duffy, who appears not to kocw fatigue, ran a wonderful race and kept crawling up upon McMillan till the last = turn, From here to the finish no change in the distance from man to man took place and MeMillan won by about twelve yards. | No.1 Co.
