omadations". They were assessed fees in accordance with this request. Simil-' arly,in’January for the second semester. Then the storm began to brew! Mr. Arnold MacLean—-through the proctors-— advised those occupying a room alone that' they were being charged an additional $100 dollars which represented $50 for the FIRST semester and $50 for the Second semester.If a student did not want to pay the additional $50 for this semester,he would have

to find himself a roomate!

Nevertheless, the $50 for the first semester was be— ing charged retroactively. There was considerable discussion among students with the Residence Manager, Business Office Manager, Registrar,Comptroller,and with the Residence Council. held. According to the mi- nutes of a meeting between Mr. Denis Clough and the Residence Council,Mr.Clough said,"...they would have

folks, we are ba— Your greivances about the rats in Dalton Hall, the lousy food in the cafeteria, everything you have always found so enjo- yable about living in resi— dence here at good ol UPEI. The powers that be have de- cided that you have been right all along so they are going to build you a brand new apartment residence and only charge you $280 a mo- nth, not bad, eh!

For this you get to, split a room with someone and the apartment with 3 other people. Now, I will not put up with any vile thoughts concerning this. It will not be two guys or two girls or any other type of heterogeneos relation- ship. It will be four guys or four girls. The excep- tion to the rule is married couples. They will allow couples who have been leg- ally sanctioned as such to live together, but only if there are two couples.

The building is appa— rently along the lines of the now infamous Dale Place. Some of you who have been here for awhile will reme— . mber that wonderful abode.‘

In-conversations with the people who live there, they were more than enthused about those modern,fully— equipped, luxury apartments.

I ask you,wou1d you go downtown and pay $280 for a two-bedroom apartment? I doubt highly if you would foster an idea like that for more than a few minutes. Even lovable Stu would rent you a two-bedroom apartment, furnished and heated for $135 a month. Maybe we should revive the Broad Axe Landlord of the Month award. Just look another laurel around the ankles of the u- niversity. If it was jud— ged on the price, guess who would win. At $40 a month per room, with two persons in each comes to $80 a mon— th. If it is based on qua— lity, the university wins again. The mice and rats in Dalton Hall, the brok— en plaster, and everything you have heard about it will surely guarantee this destf inction.

But Cheer up folks, you can move into this Taj Mahal, painted brick walls

and all. Yes, this wonde— rful building will give you

fees and as indicated on the contract when the con— tract when the student was allocated a room I A discussion with Mr. Murray Stevenson,the mana— ger of the Business Office,

revealed that ANY amount

due the university,whether it be for residence,late fees,etc.,are guaranteed to the university in the case with many students because of the P.E.I. Bursaries. When these bursaries come in at the end of February, the Business Office intends to hold on to them until ALL owing monies are paid in full. This is 8 simple procedure, as Mr. Stevenson indicated,because the che- ques are made out to the student and The University of Prince Edward Island. All the university has to do is to refuse to endorse the cheque which would make it uncashable.
