The little lad was out in the hay field while the hay was being cut and he got too near the machine and his foot was badly cut with the knives. He received medical at- tention and was then brought down to the Prince County Hospit- al. The doctors were able to save the foot and the little chap is now resting comfortably. S.

Voices Regret

The Conservative leader voiced regret at the passing of Hon. P. J. Veniot, former ,. tmaster-general. whose ancestry went back to e settler of old Acadia. Mr. Venlot had been an nthusiastie sup- porter of the park and museau.

More than one historian had described the museum site, a short. distance from Mr. ‘Bennett's boyhood home. as the most inter- esting area on the North American Continent, he said.

British Poultry Market Stressed

Great possibilities for the poul- try industry in Prince Edward Is- la.nd—an industry already staging a remarkable wine-back are seen by poultry shippers in this prov- ince. Present indications are that the British m.ar'ket during the next few years will aibsorib a very large quantity of Canadian poultry, they state, and there is a splendid field open in the early broiler trade. Essential, however. to any large development of the indus- try, awarding to shippers, is an educational campaign in the rais- ing and finishing (3 poultry for the market, an art in which local poultry farmers are lacking, they say.

"There are two remarkable out- lets for our poultry in the next few years," said one prominent shipper, speaking to The Pioneer Thursday. “These are the British market and the early broiler trade in the Maritimes.

Parasite Disease

"British poultry is being almost completely wiped out by a par- asite dlsease, and poultry raisers in that country are utterly unable to meet the demand in their mar- kets. To show just how bad the poultry epidemic is, I have per- sonai knowledge of one man who had tens of thousands of pounds invested in chicken ranches, all of which are almost completely wip- ed out.

“It will take at least {fie years before the British poultry growers can do anything toward meeting their own demand. During that time. we can establish ourselves well in the Old Country markets, if we proceed in the right way.

“British buyers want. a fat bird, weighing about I or 5 pounds, pro- PC‘1'1y finished. Apart from this fact that our local growers do not seem to understand how to finish a bird properly, we are making a mistake in concentrating on bar- red rocks, because fattened and finished in the manner in which the British want them, such birds would weigh 7 or B pounds—tco heavy for their demands.

"If we would go after it in the right manner, we would find a great outlet in that market, for the flavor of our poultry is sup- erior to that of western poultry- our biggest competitor—ailcwed to run wild over the ranches. A cam- paign of education, and willing- nose of our own growers to take some trouble are necessary, how- ever.

“Further than that, there is the early broiler trade-in May and June I have seen good broilers selling in the Saint John markets for fifty and sixty cents a pound. In the United states, the poultry farmers think they are doing well when their broilers sell for twenty- five and thirty cents a pound, so the possibilities in this business are evident. Shipment of broilers weighing around two pounds to meet the early market could be a large and very important indus- try in this province."

The wheat will be sown on a Quebec field soil in a field which will give birth, in the words of Marshal Pe- tain, to a symbol of peace and friendship between France and Canada.

W-ho!-sthebestmanonPrlnce Edward Island? This question will be pretty well answered after the Island Heavyweight Boxing Tour- nament is over on Friday night, August 7. Twenty of the brawniest green boxers in the province and all of them with a reputation in his particular section of the Island have laid claim to the title. The entries of these men are in the hands of Jole MacDonald and un- less there are an unusual number of last minute withdrawals Friday night's show will last until mid- night at least.

For many years the unofficial title “the best man on the island" has been claimed on behalf of many rough and ready battlers. In las disciplined days attempts were made to prove the right in the title at picnics. horse races and other public functions. These bouts were never supervised and were usually stopped before much damage was done to either of the contestants. But the present tournament will be

conducted under the renowned Marquis of Queensbury rules with a competent referee, Jack Ahern, in the ring, and no favors will be handed out to anyone.

There seems every probability then that for the first time in the history of the Island, one section of the country in either Prince, Kings or Queens countim will be able to boast with some truth that it has "the best man on the Is- land." It will be noted froth the list of entries appearing in this column that the aspirants hail from many sections of the prov- ince, and that even the Micmac population of Iennox Island is sending a representative to the tournament.

Very careful arrangements are being made to handle the large crowd expected. Reserve and ring- side seats will be on sale at Hughes Drug Store from Tuesday until Friday of this week. Tickets will also be on sale all Friday after- noon from 1 p.m. at the Forum.

To forestall any Jam entering the Forum the night of the fight, the side door entry of the Forum will be opened and ringside and reserved seat ticket holders will be able to file into the building as fast as the officials can take their tickets. No tickets will be sold at the side door. Extra ticket booths will be built in front and outside of the Forum and the usual wick- ets will be opened at the main entrance. With these careful pro- visions and the assistance of extra police and officials, promoter Joe MacDonald is confident the crowd will have no difficulty in quickly entering the building without dis- comfort or delay. Never before have such carefully thought out plans been made to handle a crowd, attending a boxing show in this city. All reserve and ringside seats will be numbered guarantee- ing the purchaser his seat. Doors will open at '1 p.m. and the first bout will start positively on time, 3.30 pm, A pair of fighters. prob- ably two pair, will be kept ready at the ringside. and as one bout ends another will begin. The fighters will be matched by draw before the fight. The boats will be so ar- ranged that sem.i-finalists and fin- alists will be given proper rest be- tween bouts.
