They blow much about the phenomenal growth of Western Canada, but it is like a sudden revela- tion to be told that the great city of Vancouver, half n_century ago, was not even in existence. Facts of this kind help us to a better understand- ing of Western viewpoints than do reams of and 38ml‘- "W"- speeches reported in Hansard.

Canadian lobster goes to many other countries, notably France, Holland, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, where the people are good judges of fish. While the export of canned lobster at 6 or 7 million pounds represents the greater part of the total marketed value, the export of fresh lobster to the United States is also important. Last year it was about 1o million pounds.

Hol- man tn forcing this matter upon the Public Utility Board. As s fellow Councillor, I had occasion to work with Mr. Holman fn support of our demand for s readjustment of rates and together we held interviews with an expert from Halifax, with representatives from Montague and Georgetown and with then Premiu- MncMlllan and other members of his government. We were all un- animous 1n pressing the matter to a. conclusion. but we had a hostile Mayor trying 1n every way possible to thwart our efforts.

In the nu of 1938 we had s. pro- perly prepared and legally correct netltlon filed with the Utility Board. I was one of the signers of that petition. It was also endorsed by the City, the towns of Montague and Georgetown and by the local government. That petition stlll stands and believe me the Utility Board will yet be compelled to take action thereon‘ even ff legislative action ls necessary to bring about that action.
