Air Lines Coun Over Alleged

OTTAWA (CPL—Opposing coun- sel Tuesday exchanged sharp words over statements claimed by Trans-Canada Air Lines offi- cial-s to imply that the govern— ment airline hasn't always been ﬁrank with parliamentary corm- mittees. .

The brief outburst occurred during final argument before the Air Transport Board on an appli- cation by Canadian Pacific Air- lines for transcontinental passen- ger routes in competition With TCA. The bid is being supported by Pacific Western Airlines, a west coast regional carrier.

John B. Hamilton, PWIA counsel on d Progressive Conservative member of Parliament for York West, said that as a result of this Inquiry some other measure of efficiency is going to be reqmred by TCA than has been in the past. OMITTED EVIDENCE

He said he does not suggest TCA misrepresented its position before. rliamen-tary committees investiﬁing its operations but there had been omission of evi- dence and that evidence Would have to.be.availa:ble to commit- tees in future.

Mr. Hamilton referred to vari- ous comparisons of NA’e opera- tions with United States airlines which both CPA and P'WIA coun- sel argued showed TCA as a blah- oost inefficient airline.
