A communication from the Dis- trict Past Office Inspector was read, in reply to a letter set from the Board previously, concerning the Bradalbana mail service, in which it was slated that the fenders re- ceived for the operation of a snow- mobile in winter and a car or truck during summer were apparently considered too high by the depart- ment, and as a consequence noth- in! further had been done.

It was decided, on motion, that

Wright spoke on the background of training of which the recent flight to Sacramento was a part rather than the actual flight itself. Ho stated that whilst this flight had received a large amount of publicity because it was tho first it was nevertheless a comparatively minor pas-t o1 the training of a Specialist Navigator. Outlining the history of navigation, he showed how increasing speeds and endurance of aircraft had necessitated more and more com- plex syste of navigation. The ul- tlmate idea behind the Specialist Navigator Course was to develop initiative and by dint of practical navigation and discussion with scientists and technicians. to da- velop navigation to keep pace with the growing-demands of modern alr- craft and warfare. At Charlottetown Grads “A" hogs were 29; "B 1's" 28.60, f.o.b. country points. No 1 sows were 20.50 and No. 2's 19.50, Cattle pric- es remained stationary with choice steers and heifers at 18; good 1'1; medium 16. Plain and common dairy steers down~to 10c. Best cows were selling‘ at 14; good 13.50; mo- dlurn 13; common 12. Cutters and cannon 11.’ Best heavy bulls were at 14 or from 3c—5c lower than Montreal. Good heavy bulls 12; common 11.. Good and choice veal calves brought 18c; common and medium 12. and grass calves 10-12. There are very few lambs at pre- sent on the market. Sheep-good heavyweights brought $8.00 with culls $3.00.

Eggs and Poultry

Egg production shows a very considerable increase and Iradlnif station operators report 13% over last week's volume. The quality of the product is good and demand has increased to some extent with the bulk of supplies going to other Maritime points. Retail merchants report increased egg sales in Char- lottetown with consumers demand- ing the top grades. It is estimated that Grade "A" Large comprise 86% of the sales with A Medium 2%. Grade “B" 10% and Grade "C" 1%. The majority of merchants are now selling eggs in one dozen cartons and these. with the extra cost involved, are selling at 2c per dozen more than those sold loose. There has been no change in prices.

The first hatches are now off and chickens are rollinrl to fill country orders. 1n this connection it is pointed out‘ that extreme care should be exercised in placing ord- ers for day-old chicks, to ensure that the source of supply is clean and free from disease.

Dairy Product

Butter storage in Canada and in transit is reported by the Domin- ion Bureau of Statistics at Feb- ruary 1st. to be 27980000 lbs. This compares with 51,561,000 lbs. on February 1st. last year. The five year average at February 1st. was 30,056,000 lbs. The provinces of Ontario, New Brunswick. Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island have made increases in their make during the past week.

Potato prices at local points for the past week have been slacken- ing somewhat. Demand for certi- fied is very slow and prospects for

n immediate raise are not bright. The price on Foundation and" Foun- dalion "A" Mountains, Katahdins. and ‘Cobblers has dropped in the past few days. Sebagos have scar- cely any demand. Tablutock is very ‘slow and in some places below the support price. However, there is expected to be a fair demand for Foundation and Foundation “A' seed in March and April, and the general picture may improve. In the meantime there are quite a few cat-loads of seed moving dolly.

Tho matter of s now Prince County Hospital has been an active one for some years now and there is no doubt but that some announcement by the persons responsible. that the building of s. new hospital will be proceeded with this year,‘ would be welcomed by everyone.

After some years of agitation on the part of the medical sts roger-dim the lack of nece y facilities and accommodation in the present hospital the Hospital Bond reached a decision to erect s. new building. A campaign for funds was canted on and an architect was commissioned to pro- parc s set of plans. Eventually s contract was let and excavation work for the new building was commenced on s. site on Summer Street North. When the excavat- ion wss about completed the work suddenly stopped and it was later announced that It had been found that the cost of the building. if proceeded with on the basis of the plans prepared, would be beyond the ability of the com- munity to finance. It is now nearly two years since 111a work was dis- continued and it is understood that in the meantime the Board has had the plans revised, has been in consultation with government authorities regarding a grant and that certain legislation regarding the floating of bonds lies been passed. It is hoped that. in the near future, they will be in s position to announce that the work of construction will be resumed titis summer.
