Captain Hensley and Ensign Sims. of the Prince Edward Rifles, the Staff Instructors, Campbell. \Vakefleid and Cartmill. and Sergeant Laird, oi the Artillery, for the Zeal. prompti- tude and energy, displayed by them in their efl‘orts to save the public property at the disastrous fire. at the Victoria Barracks. 0n the night of the 14th instant. Their indefatigable exertions, combined with the ready assistance of the Fire Companies. sereral of the Me- chanics of the city. and members of the Volunteer Militia. resulted in the saving of the whole of the ralua‘ hie deposit of Government Arms and Military stores in the Armory. which. but for their timely aid. would. to- gether with the remaining buildings. have been totally destroyed. ‘ «

EALED Tenders will be recechd by the Subscriber. at the General Post Office, Charlottetown, until Tuesday. the 3ist day of August. inst... at the hour of 12 o‘clock. noon. from persons .willing to contract for the conveyanCc of the Mails of this Island twice or three times in each Week (at the option of the-Postmaster General of this Island) during the Winter Season. for the ensuing three years. betWeen Cape Tormentine and Cape Trawrse. .

The person contracting to he at all times provided with at least three suitable and safe Ice Boats. and crews of four men to cross each trip. upon such days as may be appointed. if the same be practicable. The outward Mail to be receiVed at the Post Office in the Settlement of Cape Traverse. and delivored at Cape Tormentine; and those coming to the Island to he re- ceiVed at. Cape 'I‘ormentine and delivered in Charlotte- town at the Post Oflice.’ One pound. currency. per trip. will be aiIOch the contractor for the Carriage. of Mails to Cape Traverse frointhe Post Office. Charlotte- town. and the contractor to be at all times in readiness to convey such Mails when requiied.

Tenders will also be reCeived. at the same time. and for the same period. from persons willing to convey Mails twice or three times in each week (at the option of the Postmaster General of this Island) between Cape Tormentine and Amherst. The person tendering. to agree to have a courier- at. Amherst. to leave there with the Mails for this Island. upon such days as may be di- rected, and to attend to the instructions he may receive from time to time. through the Postmaster at Amherst; and the contractor also to be prepared to attend at Cape Torment-inc to aid the Ice Couriers on their ar- rival and departure With the Mails. The Mails to be delivered at Amherst within eight hours after receiving them at. Cape Toruientine, and also to deliver Mails within eight hours at Cape Tormentine. alter receiving them at Amherst. ’

The Government will not be bound to accept the lamest tender.

Sufficient Security will he required. and the namesof two responsible persons. as sureties. must be given in each tender.
