The Old library-A Gre

The transfer of books to the new library was finally completed during the Christ— mas vacation, and Kelley Memorial Library has remained vacant since then. Many people have been asking the inevitable question, "How is the old library building going to be utilized." ’

The present plan under consideration is that the Business Administration department will occupy the top two floors, and the bookstore will move into ; the lower level. An indepe— ndant architects' design for remodeling with the estimated cost proposal has been submitted for the appr- oval of the Maritime Higher Education Commission.

The architects' estimated coat is over $800,000 and by the time tenders are made the projected cost will be close to one million dollars. This would be more than twi— ce as much as the original cost of the building and almost one third the cost of the new library. The great expense is because they plan to alter the supp— ort system of the whole bui— lding. The renovation will

thus the university feels that these drastic changes are necessary.

Because the cost of renov—y ation is so great, the Univ— ersity is hesitating to proceed with the plans.

The University Comptroller, Dennis Clough, feels that the University may be better off building new facilities for Business Administration and leaving the library vacant for awhile.

The best idea, which is* supported by many students is turning the building over to the Student Union for our use. The Student Union is presently in many awkward locations throughout the campus. The executive office, the photo club, and the Cadre are located in the basement of Memorial Hall. CIMN and the yearbook are

I am not a member of the Mafia but I feel that Mr W. MacLauchlan and the Carn— ival Committee are weaseling out of the situation between our Mafia and the committee, and keeping the prize money. In the last Cadre edition, the UPEI's mafia, claim for

the prize money they deserve was shot down According/to Mr.oMacLauchlan,who had the initiative to do some resear- ch on the definition of a float, came up with the def- inition which he proposed suitable for the situation. ,The definition reads as fol— ‘lows: "A float is a platform on wheels or a vehicle with a platform used as a base for a tableau or other exh-V bit in a procession." I feel that this definition is not suitable. For instance, a floor of a car can be class- ed as a platform on wheels. Secondly, when you go to register your car or whate- 4ver you are driving, you don't go down.to the dept. of "motor Platforms", you go to the "Motor Vehicle" division. What I am trying to say is that the word vehicle can be defined as
