At first it was chiefly in front of the grand stand, where it appeared so innocent that the police present did not interfere. Wasuincron, November 16.—Secretary Gage has requested the secretary of the interior to instruct the Alaskan officials to gather about 600 head of reindeer from the goveroment herds for the use of the expedition for the relief of the ice-bound whalers inthe Arctic. The herd, which will be killed for food if ueeded, will be driven overland, and, it isthe covtident expectation, will reach the imprisoned whalers before the middle of February. The route over which the herd will be driven is said to abound in moss, upon which the reindeer will feed, and it isag- reed that the relief scheme is feasible and will be attended with little dauger. The eight veseela now ice-bound have acom- bined complement of 265 men.
