Sir Leonard Tilley visited the Starr Man ufacturing Uompany, Rope Works Symonds Foundry, Dartmouth, to-day,

Harry Bowers was severely injured at the Sugar Rofinery, at half past two o'clock this p. m. fe was engaged inside th building filhog tubs with oricks and as one of the tubs was being hoisted it tilted over, one of which struck him on the head, breaking his skull and in- flicting a terrible wound. No hopes of his recovery are entertained. He has a wife and faraily.

A commit'ee of citizens from Dartmouth interviewed Sir S. L. Tilley, to-day in reference to the proposed Branch Railway from Windsor Junction to that town. The Minister statec that the project had already received the attention of the Government but had been overshadowed by the legisla- tion for the sale of the Pacitic Railway. The Provincial Synod cpened this fore- noon in Syaod Hall here. <A_ procession was formed in the following order: Lay delegates; Clerical delegates in order ot Dioceses, according to priority of erection, and as neal y as possible according otf indi- vidual seniority of ordination; the Rev. Dr. Beredley,a d the Rev. Dr. Paone, dele- gates from the sister churches in the United States; the Bishops in order of seniority of their dioceses; the Bishop of Montreal, being preceded by his Chaplain, the Rev. Canon Evans; the Bishop of Ontario, by his Chaplain, the Rev. Canon Jones, bear- ing His Lordship’s pastoral staff; and the most Rev. the Metropolitan, being preced. ed by his Chaplain, the Rev. T. E. Dow- ling, bearing His Lordship’s pastoral staff; and the Rev. Charles Hamilton, and im. raediately preceded by the Right Rev. Dr, Miles, Bishop of New Hampshire.

A considerable cougregation had assem- bled in the Cathedral and rose as the pro-

cession made its appearance, the ‘ Old Hundred’ being sung as a processional.

The delegates halted in the aisle and separated on their side to permit His Lord- ship the Bishop to preceed up to the chan- cel. The litany was then recited by the Bishop of Toronto, after which the Right Rev. the liishop of Nova Scotia preached from 1 Cor. iit, L11—13. The sermon was declared t» have been a strongly ritualistic one, His Lordship appealing for a chari- table feeling toward these of the church who believed in the real presence, and laid stress on ritual. The Lower Churchmen are very much dissatistied.

Gen. Roberts telegraphs from Candahar, Sept. 6: Oareful enquiry shows that the enemy lost very severely on the Ist inst. Sir Jolin A. Macdonald and other Cana dian Government Commissioners have been successful in making a financial arrange- ment for the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The negotiations were conciuded this afternoon. ‘he contracts is taken jointly by a banking firm in London, a Frenc Financial Associatien, and a firm af financiers in New York. The contract- ing parties will receive from the Canadian Governnient a certain number of millions sterling in cash or its equivalent, to be pro- vided by issue of Casadian Government Bonds (uot backed, however, by Imperial guarantee), and a certain number of mil- lions of acres of land. In consideration of

these grants, the contracting parties under-

take to form a company to be called the “6 Pacific Railway Company,” which shall conatruct and work the line in perpetuity. The Government furthermore gives to the contracting parties, in addition to the sur- veya already made, the whole of the line this far built. The cost of these items is

The severest storm here for a century raged on Sunday night. It began between three and four o’clock on Sunday afternoun with a*heavy fall of rain, the wind changed to northwest. At about ten o’clock the wind shifted to the southwest and the storm moderated. The amount of damage throuch- ont the colony is very great, Trees were uprooted and gardens destroyed. Banana orchards were laid low, and thousand of dollars worth of fruit destroyed In addi- tion to all this a vast amount of damave was done to diiferent building throughout the colony, and to many of the most costly and most important publie works. A portion of the causeway was destroyed, and telegrah wires were injured so that regular commu: nication with other parts of the colony was destroyed. Sir,—tIn your two last EXAMINERS ques- tions have been asked hy two separate ‘‘ En quirers” about the late accident on our Rail- road. I wish to ask, asa third enquirer, if the whole troutle of the cars leaving the track was not caused simply by two of the fish-plate bolts breaking at one end of the tish plate? I believe this was the entire cause. Perhaps, some one of the experienced hands on the Kt. R. would give their opinion ou this.

On Monday morning last Daniel Noenan a liquor seller was brought before the Police Coart, charged with having sold liguor to Edward Doolan contrary to the provisions of the Canada Temperance Act. ‘the infor- mation against Mr. Noouan, was laid by Mrs. Doolan, at the Court Doolan refused to give evidence, as to where he obtoined the liquor, and was committed to jail until his mind undergoes a change and he con- sents to give evidence.

It is reported that Messrs. J. A. Gourlie & Co., of the Prince County Drug Store, and Ronaid McDonald have been appointed to sell liquor in the town of Summerside under the Canada Temperance Act.

Mr. Murdoch McLeod, returned home from Miramichi, on Tuesday last, whither he had gone with a shipment of cattle. The speculation was a remunerative one.

On Thursday last the Gulf Ports steamer ‘‘ Miramichi” arrived here on her up trip. She had a large number of passengers on board. Rev. Father Doyle and his niece Miss Eugenie Doyle, Hon. Wm. Richards, Miss Richards and Bradford Black took passage in her for Montreal. She took as freight from this port 540 barrels of oysters.

store on Water Street.

It is reported that the appointment of the Hon. James Muirhead as Deputy Port Warden for the port of Summerside, has been cancelled.
