Dr. Gesner’s Petition.—Mr. Pore gave motice, with reference to a Petition from Dr. Gesner, Halifax, N.S. presented to the House by him (Mr. Pope) Jast Session, praying fer Letters Patent for the Island, for the manafacture of Hluminating Gas from Bitumen, that he would, on an early day, introduce 2 Pill in conformity with the said Petition.

Petition of John Wright, Coroner of Prince County, Mr Pops presented a Pe- tition from J. Wright. Coroner of Prince County etting forth, That in the month of Oeioder, 1849, the Petitioner submitted to the Lieut. Governor and Conneil, an account of services performed by him, sinee the month of July, 1846, as Coroner for Prince County, and solicited remun- erdtion ior Inquests held on the bodies of individuals whe left no effects at their de- cease. That the Lieut. Governor and Council did not entertain the Petitioner’s accounts, and consequently, granted no allowance as a remaneration for the servi- ces performed. “the Petitioner, therefore, prays agrant of asum of money equal in amount to taat represented in the accourts of the Inquests, or as much thereof as the House may deem just and meet. ‘The Pe- tition is accompanied by a statement of Accounts from 15th July, 1845 io 12th Sept., 1849, to'al amount £17 7 54—and a Letter marked on} the superscription,

“On Service.” “‘Seeretary’s Offiece,’’ to the effect that the Colonial Secretary

thinks every item in the Inquest Accourts objectionable, and, therefore, declines to submit them to the Couneil.’’ This letter hears the Signature of ** PeterMacgowan,”’ this gentleman having it appeara been em- ployed to deliver in the accounts at the Of- ffice of the Colonial Secretary. The Pe- tition was received and read, and then or- dered to be referred to a Special Commut- teed.

Roaps ann Bainars.—Mr. Crark, from a Committee of the whole House having had under their consideration cer- tain matters connected with the Road Service, reported the three following Re- solutions, which were severally adopted by the House :—

1. Resolved, As the opinion of this Comunittee, ‘I'hat all contracts entered 1n- to for the renairs of Bridges and Wharfs, up to this date, be provided for a special Appropriation; and that the sum of Four thousand five hundred pounds to be devi- ded according to the toilowing scale for the service of Roads, Bridges and Wharfs for the present year:

2. Reso'ved. That the sum of One hundred and forty pounds be granted to defray the contingent expenses of the Roads, Bridges, and Wharis, the same to be equally appropriated among the three Counties.
