Mr. Patuilo, the political agent of the Grit Party, possesses a wonderful imagina- tion, when he tells people that Prince Ed- ward Island is going ** solid for the Govern- ment.” The Government won't get one supporter from the Island. ‘That is- gener-

Grits think possibly one may be returned. Judging Mr. Patullo’s prophecy from what | he says abont the Maritime Provinces he will be included among the false prophets after the 17th, for the Government cannot possibly secure a majority in the Maritime Provinces. The majority will be greatly against them. The game of ‘bg’ will not suve the Government this time. In Ontario the Government claim even a larger majority than they got last general election. The absurdity of their claim is seen in the fact that avery large and in- fluential body— the Baldwin Reformers— have split off from the Grits, and have openly cast in their lot with Sir John, as more truly Reform than George Brown. Why, at one meeting in the Ampitheatre in Toronto, where some five thousand peo- ple attended, four out of the six speakers had always been Reformers till this elec- tion. The Chairman was a Reformer. So was the Secretary and another officer. This we have upon the authority of a citizen of Halifax who recently visited Toronto, and when asked where he had been during the evening, wittily replied, “Ata meeting of Reformers, viz., at the Ampitheatre.”’ With the Conservative party of 1874 compact, strong and lively; with the great addition to their numbers caused by the defection of the Baldwin Re- formers; with the serious defection from the Grit ranks of the Catholic Association, it is simply playing the clown with bell and cap for Mr. Patullo to tell the people that the Grit Party willdo better in Ontario than last time. Take the known facts in Ontario and in P. E. Island, and judge Mr. P’s forecast by them, and you will see he is simply fooling his party.—H~x. Re- porter. —-- +e — —— —

The Great Grit Boor.

The people of British Columbia are also dissatistied with Mr. McKenzie’s rule. They don’t want him any more. He has not done right by that Province, as the Assembly, by a vote of I4to 9, have attirmed. The man seems to have one talent wonderfully developed. He has managed to disgust more people, more great bodies of men, in all the Provinces, than any other Premier that ever existed. He disgusted Mr. O’Brien by his boorishness. He disgusted the rail- way contractors. He disgusted the mem- bers of the Catholic Association of Ontario. He disgusted the manufacturers of the Dominion by his unmannerly action to- wards them when the Depression Committee was sitting. He offended the Irishmen of Halifax by his sneers at them as ‘‘shillaleh” men. He has alienated the people of Brit- ish Columbia. Is there anybody supporting him from belief in him—from love of him ? We think not. Certainly, if you find an active partizan of Mr. McKenzie down here you will, on enquiry, find out that he has some axe to grind—either he has some claim against the Government he wants to get settled up, or he is looking for some billet, or he has a road commission from the Local Government in his pocket, or something of that sort. ‘ake out the grab- bers and seekers and you will find a very small knot of men who support Mr. Mc- Kenzie because they believe him honest and

Tue-Alberton Pioneer has quit the poli- tical field. It does not even look over the fence. .1n the last issue we find the follow- ing:— ‘*We will likely have lively times among our local politicians for the next two weeks, For our part we may use the words of a great and good man,—‘‘But none of these things move us.” Let those who sub- sist by Government crumbs and bone-pick- ing hoe right in and sling dirt and garbage at each other.”

THE meeting called by Mesars. Pope and Brecken at Rustico, yesterday evening, was attended by over four hundred electors. The Opposition and Government candidates spoke’at some length. At the close a reso- tution favoring the ‘‘National Policy” and supporting the Opposition candidates was passed all but unanimously. Messrs. Pope and Brecken will address the electors of New Glasgow this evening.

een regulated by the rates tixed for SYDNEY COAL; but while it is true that other coals, to get a sale at all, have been pressed on the market at various prices under the current rate of SYDNEY COAT, it is no less true that, taking into account the superior lasting qualities of SYDNEY COAL when compared with other Cape Breton coals, the advantage, both as to economy and convenience, is in favor of SYDNEY COAL, even at a much higher price.

The General Mining Association (Limited) regret that they should again have to caution the Public against the attempts being made from time to time to induce them to buy in- ferior coals purporting to be ** EQUAL TO SYDNEY,” “SUPERIOR TO SYDNEY,” etc., etc., while some yet more unscrupulous vendors have not hesitated to advertise their coalas SYDNEY COAL (from some designated locality). All these efforts to sell coal by such means are only so many admissions on the part of those who make them of the stax parp character of SYDNEY COAL,

It has come to the knowledge of the Asso- ciation that in frequent instances parties giving orders to trackmen and others for SYDNEY COAL have been furnished with other and inferior coal. ‘The Public are cautioned against permitting themselves to he imposed apon in this way.

Every vessel loaded at THE SYDNEY MINES is furnished with a certificate of the cargo being Sydney Coal. Parties purchasing should satisfy themselves by demanding the production of this certiticate.
