One is a reluctance to undertake any of the more dramatic alter- natives such as a blockade of the Chinese mainland or a large ex- pansion of the war in Korea, both because of strong Allied opposition and because of the further oom- mltment of U; S. forces that would be required.

The other trend is that the ad- ministration favors maximum -dls- engagement of U. S. and western forces from the Asian conflict as rapidly as possible without sacrifice of major interest. . -

DE'lI'ROIT. (AP) Amazing plastic surgery rebuilt it bad valve in a boy's heori while a pulsing mechanical heart kept him alive, it was learned Saturday.

With the whole right side of his heart empty of blood, Harper Hos- pital surgeons calmly rebuilt the valve which had t.l'u'ea'tened to kill 16-year-old Charles Chuck Moses of Detroit.

This plastic surgery is apparent- ly ll. medical first. It opens pros- pects of ability to repair human hearts much as plastic surgeons now rebuild a nose or ear or hand. The "Michigan heart," the glass- metnl-and rubber device that works like a l2-cylinder automobile en- gine, made the surgery possible.

The Second Patient

Chuck, who dreams now of be- coming a big-league baseball play- er. was the second person so far disclosed to have been attached to this machine.

Last Oct. 17, Dr. F.D. Dodrill and associates told of using the heart for 50 minutes to put the left side of a man's heart on vacation. The machine pumped his blood through his body vithile surgeons repaired a bad valve in the left side of the heart. -

Bypassing the right side of the human heart was more difficult.

"The co-operation of Group Wings was a contributing factor,” the speaker added.

WAS!-IINGTON, (AP) - A high- ly-placed source said Saturday the Eisenhower administration backs Agriculture Secretary Ezra Taft Benson's stand on farm-iprice sup- ports and is prepared to make an issue of it.

At the same time, the source sug- gested that the Republican govern- ment, less than a month in office, may underestimate the political pressures engendered by falling farm prices and similar "pocket- book problems."

He said it has fallen to Benson's lot to take the first politically risky stand under the new administra- tion. But Eisenhower and his chief advisers saw the farm-price prob- lem as the first of many "political bumps" that must be ridden out if they are to put across a program they believe necessary to the well being of the United States.

It dealt equally harshly with some European allies, who were said to be gouging the U, S. and its servicemen on supplies and necessities.
