The cheese and butter factory bas given a strong impetus to farmers here and vicinity, gieat care being exercised in selecting milch cows, the favorite being Ayrshire. It is the opinion that Government should import pure bred bulls of this valuable breed at least one for each county. Great exertions are made in securing pigs suitable for the pork factory in the citv, fancy prices being paid for pigs of the right breed.
Au at home was given by Mr. Malcolm McNeill, who took a partner for life a short time ago. About 150 guests sat down to & sumptuous repast. The bealth of the youthful pair was proposed by Mr. Jas. McLean in @ neat speech, and responded to by Mr. A. C. Shaw in a@ racy and humor ous manner. Ripples of laughter were heard throughout asd “our Sandy” ended a brief but happy s eech by proposing three hearty cheers for the young couple, which were he rtily responded to, the ladies way their handkerchiefs, etc.
Mr. Shaw acted as chairman and following toasts were proposed, Queen, The Dominion Palicck, t The Governor General, The Lieutenant Gover- nor, The Local L-gislature, Our Island Home, &c., responded to by Messrs, Jas. McLean, Neil Currie, T. J. Stewart, Daniel McNeil], John McRae, John Me- Leav and the chairman. The speeches made were brief but exceilent being well received. The mistiebough,sang by Mrs. Shaw aod Stretch, and, the comic songe of Chadwick S:retch together with the pieces recited by our youthful elocutionists the Miseee Stewartand McKenzie, were several rally applauded. The light fantastic toe was also in operation and not by any means confined to the most youthfal Altogether it was the most enjoyable evening ever spent in Long Creek, the parting guests wishing Mr. McNeili aad bis amiable partuer a happy journey through Jife. It mnst not be forgotten the presents to Mre, McNeill were numerous aud valuable.
Mr. Edgar Strang took his youthful bride to her home at Cape Traverse a few days ago carrying with him the good wishes of the people of the neighborhood. Mr. S range was purser on the steamer Alameda during the pas eeason and by his courteous and ger tlemanly conduct and the careful attention paid to passengers and their freight became a general fav-
