Certainly. it was he- tural for North to give I heart raise on the second round instead of branching out into notrump. since he had nothing of value in diamonds. and alter this heart raise South had every reason to look (or game at that. denomination. Even at match-point duplicate it is safe to say that most experienc- ed partnerships would land at tour hearts rathe than three notrump, and. in inc. they would be wise to do so since it) tricks could not be made at notriimp against good detense.

Against tour hearts, West led the spade king, and when East play- ed the eight, on dummy's see. it was pretty well established that he had started with two spades as a maximum.

South considered discardink It spade on dummy's second club hon- or. then leading diamonds with an eye to ruiting out that. suit. but it was obvious that the defense would counter by loading trumps. so south chose a different. course. He cashed the top clubs. discarding I diamond. and ruited a club with the heart ace. He cashed the heart. king and led the tires to the ten. then ruiied another Cili'). With the heart. queen.
