GILACE BAY. N, 8.. Jan. 21 -- tC.P)-Halifax St. Mary's regained a third-place Maritime Major Hockey League tie with Glace Bay Miners tonight. blanking the Coalmen 5-0 in a quiet game. They each have 54 points. only a game behind sceond-place Charlotte- town islanders.

Centre Dewar Thompson paced the visitors with three points; a goal and two assists. Defenceman Danny Nixon started the land- slide with a blistering shot that fooled goalie Bob Arneil of Min- ers at 12:39 of the first period. Miners played good hockey in the opener but failed to heat Halifax goalie Strachan. though outshoot- lmz Saints l0-8.

Bill Ford put Saints ahead 2-0 at 3:47 of the middle frame on a three-way combination wit I1 Thompson and big Bob Drainvlllc. Glace Bay held Saints off again until early in the third period when Johnny Morrow flipped the puck into the corner of the net.

The Albany St. Pats have no uniforms with an unusual deslg on the sweaters. a David Brown tractor. The uniforms were do- nated to the team by the firm of Crossmnn & Bradshaw. Albany. whose proprietors. Doug Cross- man and Mac Brudslinw are to lie commended for their generous gift. Both lovers of hockey. Doug referees the South Shore League games regularly. and Mac plays on the forward line with the St. Pats. U I C The Summcrsidc High School and Albany St. P.-its seem pretty evenly matched. and but for Mr. Noonan in the nets who just wouldn't get out of the way. the game between the two teams might have been a very close ai- falr on Friday night. We've seen Noonan with the big pads quite often in recent years. Like the little girl with the curl right in the middle of her forehead. when he's good. he's very. very good --and we never saw him better titan last Friday. The Sum-hi kids showed n surprising proficiency in power plays. but Noonan put it sour ending on a lot of sweet plays right outside his cage. . o - .

It was It tough one for the high school boys to lose. They sacrificed quite a bit in playing

school was holding its annual "Co-ed Dance". The boys grum- bled a bit. Just once a year the girls took them to a dance. foot- ed sll the bills. and here they were having to play hockey in Bcdcque. Vance'Harris is going to be outstanding in this business of playing hockey if some coach whispers a few words of wisdom in his ear.-in time. He possesses daillinl Speed. and is a good puck carrier. but rarely passes in the attacking zone. He is goal hun- cry. and assists apparently don't Interest him. He got two pretty goals on nice solo excursions. and that sometimes sells a young player the idea that he hasn't any team-mates. With his speed and aggressiveness. Harris will go places if he realizes he is Just n cog in a machine. The solo boys wilt when competition gets ltot- ter.
