The death of Mr. Jeremiah Bears of Murray River, P. E. L, wok place at his home On the morning of Jan 13, 1934, after a brief illness. Pneu- monia wss the cause of death.

The deceased was born st Mur- ray River 67 years ago. His wife

him by about two years, and since that time he hsd been living by himself until re- cently, when his neice, Mrs. Char. les MacKirlnon and her husband and small daughter came t0 live with him.

In less than a year before his death, Mr. Bears was called upon to mourn the decease of two brot- hers and one sister-in-law, no one thinking that his own departure would take place so soon. There re- main s number of nephews and nieces.

The day of the funeral, Jan, 15th was very stormy with very bsd N865. but a good number attend- ed the funeral, which was conduct- ed by Rev. T. R, Goudge in the United Church at Murray River. Burial took place in the Murray River cemetery.

MONTREAL, Jl-n. 28—The im- portance of grading butter for re- tail sale was stressed by J. A. Mac- Feeters of Toronto and Joseph Cregon of Montreal, speaking at the annual convention of the Can- adian Produce Association in the Windsor Hotel last week. Attention was drawn to the widely diverse advertisements appearing in news- papers regsrding butter offered for sale, describing it in all sorts of fanciful terms, which meant noth- ing to the consumer as s gusge of the real nature or quality of the butter.

Both speakers were of the opin- ion that definite standards of but- ter quality and freshness should be established by government grading, as is being done for eggs, and as is done in regard to butter and cheese for export.

S. C. Mcilennan, of the Depart- ment of Agriculture, Ottawa, re- ported on experiments carried out by the department as to the relat- ive strength of different types of cases for eggs, showing that it was possible to get adequately strong cases for eggs, showing that it was Canadian wood, in which eggs could be transported without fear of damage through the case break- in‘.

Important Statistics

The inlportsnce of the statistics showing holdings of butter, cheese, eggs and poultry throughout the Dominion as sn aid to efficient trading was emphasized in the re- commending of a special committee appointed to consider this matter and they recommen’ ‘ that the bureau should publish on the 10th of each month the reports on these commodities, to correspond with the reports issued by the United States, instead of two days later as now and that firms who consistent- ly refuse to supply the statistics required under the Statistics Act should be rosscuted.

An snims discussion arose re- garding the egg grading report, the committee bringing in s. recom- mendation that the new regulations should be set aside and reversion made to the old standards of grad- ing with the exception of the abolition of the storage classifica- tion.
