CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR.

Convention at St. John.

The third annual convention of the Chris- tian Endeavor societies convered yesterday. At the evening session addresses were made by several clergymen and others. There are 276 societies in Nova Scotia, 93 in New Brunswick, 12 in P. E. Island and 2 in Trinidad, the members numbering 15,000.

Mayor Snow's DisapreaRAncs. — Referring to the disappearance of Mavor Snore, the St. John Globe says: A prominent iasurance man who visited Moncton on Tuesday and made, un inspection of Mr. Snow's books, declares ! that while his affairs are somewhat involved ! they are not in such a condition as to make it | necessary for him to fly. The insurance man | alao ventured the opinion—and in this he was joined by many others of his collesgues and also by Mr. Sanderson, local manager of the! Bank of Nova Scotia—that if Mr. Snow re- | turned home arrangements could easily be ; made which would help him over all his difficulties. Mr. Snow carried a heavy ac- count with the Bank of Nova Scotia, and in addition to this owed a large sum to a friend, besides accounts to the various in- gurance companies of which he held

he agency. It is ssid that the bank was pressing him heavily, ‘hough this is denied, and that he was a'so worried over the money borrowed from his friend, about $5,000. That he intended to return to Moncton when he left it on Thursday ‘ast is the general opinion. It is known that he had very little money with him, and also that before his departure he paid off several accouats. The theory is that while away he began worrying over his affairs and then determined to skip out. Should his whereabouts be learned, etrong efforts will be made to induce him to return to Moncton, and his friends will endeavor to satisfactorily arange his business «ffairs.

President Harrison desires to play a magnanimous part, and 80 will offer the ex secretary a place among the United States delegates to the Interna- tional M netary conference, which is to meet at Brussels. Whether Mr. Blaine accepts or not is of little conseyuance. In the vernacular of the day he is politically a back number,
