Mrs. Ernest MacNe-ill reporting for the community friendship sec- retary said 25 sick calls. one hos- pital and six cards had been sent.

The Temperance secretary, Mrs. Ira MacCoubrey. distributed book- lets. Alcohol and Accidents. which ‘shows that experiments have proved that even a very sit-tall amount of alcohol before driving an automobile does impair even good drivers. The only safe rule for all drivers is—l.f you drive. don't drink.

The devotional service as given in the Missionary Monthly was followed. Mrs. Alfred Moore of- fered preyer for missionaries in India especially mentioning Miss Beryl! Morson who is home on furlough. The theme of study was "Growing With the Years in En- lightening tihe Mind". A maip of the world was used and stickers in two colors showed where the edu- cational work of the WMS. has been established in the different countries including India. China. Japan, Africa and Canada. Three out of five of the human race cannot read and write but wher- ever tbere is a missionary liiliter- ary has a foe.

Gov'i Offers Loans To Coal Operators

OTTAWA. Nov. 24 — (C?) -- Tho Government is prepared to loan up to $10,000,000 to Maritime coal operators to modernize mines and increase production.

Legislation providing for iihe loans is to be introduced in ﬂue Commons tomorrow by Trade Minister Howe.

Brief notice of introduction. placed on the Commons order pia- per today. merely stated that the legislation is designed to help modernize production methods.

Under tar-ms of the loans. a maximum loan of $7,500,000 can be made to any one operator. s1- though the total amount set-aside for all loans will not exceed $10.- 000.000.

‘Phebe was no indication what the conditions of the loans and tho terms of repayment will be. They are expected to be detailed by Mr. Howe tomorrow.
