Confronted by a wave of letters this week, your editor has to keep his own comments short.
That, believe it or not, is good.
The SUN wants
to provide reading as interesting as possible, and letters to the editor fill the bill much better than editorials ever will. ~
There is something, however, which SUN staff
and readers should know about.
That is the
fact that next week a field worker from ARCUP (Atlantic Region Canadian University Press)
will be on campus.
The man's mane is Matt
Adamson, and tentative plans have been made for him to be here from Monday to Wednesday,
October 8th to 10th.
His purpose will be to
advise and assist everyone interested in
newspaper writing and production.
There is no
definite schedule by which he will do this, but hopefully there will be a session for writers at 7 pm on Monday, and one for lay-out
people at the same time on Tuesday.
Everything
will happen in the SUN office, and YOU are welcome to come to absorb Matt's knowledge. I especiallly urge the SUN staff to be here. Matt will be able to teach us‘a lot. ‘

Dear Editor,
Help. I can't make head nor tail of what is said in "Of Cabbages and Kings". This column is not reaching me in any way. Is it reaching anyone else?
Bewildered Dear Bewildered,
It has always been the unique writer who has been least under— stood. That does not, however, mean that he has nothing to say, or that he cannot entertain. I suppose that for a reader accustomed to the normal journalistic diet of the SUN, "or Cabbages and Kings" may be disconcerting. Yet, if you look below the .column's provocative tone I trust you will find a message of value. For most readers that .message should make "Of Cabbages and Kings" worthwhile. For others the column will be simply entertaining. Yes, Bewildered, I do think "Of Cabbages and Kings" is appealing to some people, and I _ certainly do not consider it a waste of space. It has merit.

This letter is written in response to two oolunns that appeared in the UPEI SUN, Volume II, Issue III.
In the article entitled,
‘ "Artsies: Only Chains to
lose" , Kevin Gauthier strenuously voices his objection to the oombsc— ensicn sham by business and science students 3:0- ward those in the arts. Several remarks made by Mr. Gauthier are. not only / prejudiced, but are inaccurate. To assure that businessman enjoy fore- : closing mortgages .is absurd. That is like saying that zoologists enjoy killing animals or that football players like to hurt, their oppments. Generalizations of this type are sinply not correct. ‘

tradespeople will find that .
remark insulting and con- descending. It seems _ strange that Mr. Gauthier takes this attitude, when the whole point of the article is to strike out at oondesoension.

r In a fine exanple of terrible writing, George Barry takes a swipe at various aspects of our society. Obviously, he regards people as nothing note than a selfish group of- idiots. I strongly disagree with this point of view, and find the entire article to be self— defeating.‘ While the column was prtbably written with good intent, , I wcnchr if his method of insulting the reader from beginning to end will ' bring nany people aromd to his point of view.

7 The subject of my appeal is directed to the UPEI student body as a whole. This appeal concerns CIMN radio which I feel is
in great danger of. failing. My opinion
is based on thelfact ~ that having worked.
with the newly appointed ' station manager, during the previous year, that he will be unable to ‘fulfill the requirements of the position.' It would seem ironical that the present’manager of the student radio station has very limited technological and musical knowledge of efficiently running the radio statiOn.

My position asfprogram and music director for CIMN radio.during the past academic year has enabled me to :see many ' shortcomings of the station. After presenting my qualifications to the personal board I feel that my candidacy was lightly taken. As ” previous references I have worked one year as an executive for CIMN, have made commercials for CHTN Charlottetown, CFOX Mbntreal, and have had broadcasting experience
/ with CFCF and CKGM Montreal.
Due to the incompetency of the newly appointed station manager, it would be impossible to work as his assistant.~ This is why‘
