Junior Tourney Starts Today

The Charlottetown junior tennis tournament, under the super- vision of the local recreation departmen!. is scheduled to swing into action this morning, at Victoria Park '

The three clay courts are in excell@nt condition and tennis participation has been much better than anticipated at. the bégin- ning of the season. ;

The city tournament will be concluded Wednesday and the top two competitors from the respective flivisions will represent Cc n in the provincial tournament. The |sland tourney

will be staged in Summerside, this year. and it is scheduled for July 30th. : . :

We were in Summerside during Lobster Carnival Week and had occasion to chat with Miss Janet MacFarlane, who takes care of the dennis program for the youngsters in the western centre.

Janet told us she has approximately 9% youngsters taking part in the tennis program and that she expects to have a healthy entry im the provincial junior competition

This summer there are 130 youngsters registered at the local courts. Although, the senior program is still practically nil there are a few taking part’ and with so.many youngsters showing an interest the future appears bright for Island tenrtis.
