For ia stance, if you love the card table, bar room or yourself better than you do your home, remain single. Do vot marry a girl and take her trom a lov- home, where perhaps she has father, mother, sisters and brothers for companions every day, and as soon as you have returned froin your wedding tour spend all your spare time and every evening with old companions, aad leave her to enjoy her own society with the help of the cat. You have done your duty(you think) if you have) leit enengh of wood split to keep the house warm notil mid-night, when you see fit to come home, and your are quite put outif your wife does not meet you witha smile. If she sbonid veuture to find fault at having to stay up so late} you put your foot down at once. Are yon master there? You tell her that you intend to do as you please. If it should be your evening thanksgiving snd you bave married » sensible girl, yoo need not be surprised, and that before very long, to discover tbat she has become indifferent as to your whereabouts, a sad state of affairs, but what you must expect, unless you do your best in makiug home the dearest pot on earth? Wheo you rr. prepared to make these sacrifices, by all means get married. It is that way the good Father intended to be happiest.

The Tebacco Industry of Germany.

“The following is from the “ Tabak Zei\ung:” chief producer of tobacco is, as is well known, its home, Americu whose power of producing i i8 not nearly approached by that of any other division of the earth. The further how- ever, the love of tobacco spreads out- side that country. The smokiog nations of this quarter of the globe do the utmost—aod very justifiable t10o—t0 provide for their own needs 1s far as possible. Unfortunately the results do vol always correspon to the: exertions, at leas as faras flow is con- cersed- In Europe the be-t civars are produced by Lurkey, Russia, Hungary, Germany and France, but they or tar surpassed by the United S-ates o America, Cuba and Brizil. German wad France are even behiod Japan, Peru and China. In spite of that, th cultivation of tobacco in Germany i+ more important than is generally be- lieved. ‘The area of the ground grown with tobacco amonnted to 21,800 nectares, the yield of the cured leave- (taking the average of the last two years) to 41,728 tons. But this is not nearly enough for the requirement of the home tobaceo indus ry in raw tobacer, Above 40 per cent. of the quantity used is imported. =_-
