Panthersiwill have‘to start a new-winning streak

Well Winter Carnival Madness Week is over and we'll settle down to rout— ine existence ...we are quite tired after last night;s affair at Confed— eration Centre and today's_ activities haven't helped.

The sports week start— ed off pleasently enough as the Hockey Panthers up—' set Acadia 6—3 in a good game which had the home— town heroes outshooting the Axemen 40—21. Dave Murnaghan scored two goals &, we thOught him the star of the game, closely followed by Doug Maclean & Tommy Hewwood. The contest was quité‘ hard hitting. Gordie. Drake & Dave Murnaghan won their bouts by wide margins.

Sunday's game with Dalhousie was also a good game buttnot nearly as en— joyable for the Panther fans as the Tigers nosed us out in overtime by a 5—4 mar— gin\after Donnie Brown had; played a heroe's role by scoring the equalizer with l7seconds to go. Dal's goalkeeper, Vince Desjard- ins was outstanding for Dalhousie as the Panthers enjoyed a 54—26 advantage_ in the "Shots on Goal" department.’ We'd give laurels in this game to Donnie Brown, Doug McLean & wayne Bernard. We do not know how the standings are in the league but this 1088 was s serious blow to Panther playoff hopes as D81 is one of the teams We must beat out if we are to achieve the much sought— after playoff spot.

to Saint F.X. but bounced back this (Sunday) after— noon to beat out highly rated Mount Allison Hawks by 105-94..we trailed 51— 47 at the half & the Hawks appeared to have the game well in hand as they opened up a 12 point lead early in the second stanza. Tom Hibbert had 38 points and Art Laffin 30. 'The game marked the end of the inter- collegiate careers of Mike Connolly and Phil Connolly_ ....we will certainly miss these two...they played good basketball & gave at least llOZ-of themselves

The Panther Booster Club made a presentation at half time. Sports activit- ies this week will have the Basketball Pantherettes playing hostesses to Mount A. on Tuesday night at 6: St. F.X. on Friday at the same time.... &Acadia on Saturday at 2:00. In hock— ey we will see St.F.X. (re— member the old cry "Beat X .....BEAT X.) on Saturday at 2:00 .. & on Sunday ST. Mary's will be here with Billy Doherty, Darcy Murphy

& Grady...it may be a lab—- oured phrase but these are certainly MUST games...be there & cheer....Panther hockey is not for those with weak hearts........
