The progress of the fire was most rapid, and tLe wind was high and the heat intenge. An idea of the rapidity with which the flames sped may be gathered from the fact that one unfortunate householder fearing that he would be burned out, piled his effects upon a team and was driving them away toa place of safety. A spark alight- ed upon a maitress, and before the man could extinguish it, the whole team load was ablaze. It was as mach asthe driver could do to save the horses, and the team and furniture were burned.
