This was only 1‘2 minutes after he was supposed to splash down, journey that began in Canaveral at 9:04 am. Wednes- day and wound up about 80 miles south of Midway Island. 34 hours and 20": minutes later. It was a 600.000-mile shot that hit. right on the target.

Cooper came down within 7.000 yards of this rescue ship. The. astronaut jokingly apolo~ gized for not coming closer.
