Gideon Activities Reviewed At Rotary

Mr. Stanley Boswell, Toronto. International trustee of The Gid- cons. was guest speaker at Rotary luncheon in the Charrlottet wn Hotel yesterday. He was inro- ilticed by the President of tiie (Ilia:-lottetoyvn Gideon Camp. Mr. Ralph Rupert.

Mr. Boswell said that most people were not making full use of their most important heritage. the open Bible. The Gideons had undertaken to place the Bible in hotels. pegal iiistitutiona and other places so that the Word of God might be available to all 'll need. After an independent s-irvey organization had reported l13L 75 per cent of the young peo- ;.:r. had no religious contact. the Gideons had started giving a mpy of the New Testament to .-rich child in the ilifth grade who at-oiild promise to read a portion r:i(-h day. Potato harvesting will be soon in full swing. and the careful dig- ging and handling of the potatoes is of dollar and cent importance to the producers, Mr. Chester E. Shaw, District Inspector of the Fruit and Vegetable Division. Do- minion Department of Agriculture. stated yesterday.

This is particularly true in the digging operation. where it has been the habit of many operators to drive tractors and diggers too fast. causing great losses due to bruising and small surface injuries. Some of these defects are not read- ily discernible at the time of pick- ing, but are very evident two or three months later when the crop is graded and shipped to the con- aumer.

Oii inspectioii, it has been es- timated that these defects ac- count. for twenty-live per cent of the total yield grown by some gsowers. and that with R little cart-. and attention a large percentage of this loss can be avoided.
