The erection of anew building, on the

site now occupied by the Apothecaries Hall will necessitate the removal ofa landmark familiar througbout several generations to the citizens of Charlotte- town and to many of the people of other parts of the Island.

In olden times “‘DesBrisay’s Corner,” or ‘The Apothecaries Hall”—it was known by both names—was one of the prominent buildings of the town, and was so situated s:o command a general view of Coarlotte- town and the harbor. This was before the streets became lined with taller build ings. Today the Apothecaries Hall and

only a few of ite old contemporaries remain on thenorth side of Queen Square. Next spring it too will succumb to the march of progress. The old building, with it as- sociations of our forefathers, will give place to a modern stone and brick struc~ ture and the old “corner” will he improved almost out of remembrance. The new building will by reason of its beauty and size enable the old corner to recover its former prominence, which of late years has been somewhat diminished by comparieon with some of the modern buildings erected on the same block.

By glancing at the accompanying il lustration our readere will be able to see at a glance that the present Apothecaries Hail building ie he survivor of an ancient and honorable past. It was chief among a number of etores, the names of whose proprietors were to our fathers familiar as houshold words in the beginning of the century.
