_ Yearbook has not published in three

years. In her four years as editor, Dawn Ambler, now a Masters student at the Univer- sity of Ottawa, produced only one yearbook, the 1989 volume, which was released on schedule in the fall of 1990. When the release of the 1990 yearbook fell behind Ambler was confronted by Student Union General Manager, Heather Love, who was told that the book had been completed and sent to the printers in Winnepeg. After six months, the yearbook still had not surfaced. Love once again asked Ambler about the book. Ambler said the 90 book had not been sent before, but now it had been. Another six months later Love again confronted Ambler, who said that the book had not been sent before, but that now both it and the 1991 volume were being printed.

The 1992 school year ended without the books being sent. Ambler moved to Ontario, leaving Student Union not knowing where the three yearbooks were. Love discovered that Ambler had the books with her in Ottawa. Love requested that the books be sent back, and they were received late last year. All three were incomplete and left in the hands of the printers to be finished.

It is believed that the 1990 and ’91 books will

be released before the end of this semester. The 1992 yearbook will be available as soon as it is printed.

Despite producing only one yearbook, Am- bler received $47 a week for four years. Heather Love described the incident as a difficult situa- tion in which intervention may have been im- possible.

Love went on to say: ‘‘Our [the Student Union’s] concern is more in getting the books done than in laying blame.’’ She went on to add that as a slight consolation the books looked very good.

Julie Sirois, the recently elected Vice Presi- dent Internal at UPEI, said that the Student Union are very sorry for the delay and that former students now living off-island can have their books mailed to them.

Students used to pay a $13 fee for their yearbooks. The sum is now part of a$92 Student Union fee.

Dawn Ambler was unavailable to speak in her defense, but current Yearbook editor Sheryll O’ Hanley suggested that the backlog was due to a lack of volunteer support, leaving Ambler to produce the books largely by herself. O’ Hanley says she has set a strict schedule for herself and that the 1993 yearbook will be available on schedule, next fall. @
