the place, and to serve as a model for the surroundings of schools which are not model schools. The Commissioner of Pub- lic Works must really give some attention to the exterior (if not to the interior) of the Model School building.
The pupils in attendance at the Model School number seventy-three. They are in two classes. The Advanced Department is under the supervision of Mr. McSwain, and the Primary Department under that of Miss Scott. The teachers are efficient and painstaking, and the scholars of the Ad- vanced Class evidenced a familiar acquaint- ance with some of the most prominent features of their own country, while those of the latter seemed to be bright and intel- ligent.
