Health Planning Meetings Conclude

Members of the Maritime group of the Health Planning Commis- sions of Nova Bcotis, New Bruns- wick. The group were visitors at. the monthly dinner. meeting of the Provincial Medical Association held on Monday evening at The Q11"- lottetown. Paracolon bacillus is not neces- sarily evidence of human contam- ination as it is sometimes to be found naturally in the soil, Mr. Jelks explained to a Guardian rep- resentative last evening.

In co-operation with W. K. Sharpe, director of the Provinces division of sanitary engineering, who is carrying out the field work. Mr. Jelks has already commenced his project. All uatei-"sampies sub- mitted since February for routine examination have been tested for paracolon bacillus.

As little research has ever been done in this particular field, Mr. Jelke states that it must. therefore- start. with basic principles and may go on for a considerable period of time to obtain publishable results.

At the plane. the berries are in- spected by Stewart MacFarlane, Winsloe, fruit and vegetable in- spector with the Dominion De- partment. Mr. MacFnrlsne pointed out that each crate is identified with the grower‘s number in or- der to be able to check unsatis- factory shipments. He said the quality of the crop this year was "very good."

“So for, the strawberry business is more promising than last year, and the price is expected to hold up," was the joint conclusion of the two presidents of the Associ- ations, Pius MacDonald and Mal- colm Reeves.

FUNERAL YESTERDAY- The funeral of the late J. Ernest Mc- Innis was held yesterday afternoon from the'Cutcllffe Funeral Home. Services at the home and grave were conducted by the Rev. G. Yesterday young men and women from Fort Augustus, Johnson's River, Mount Herbert and East. Royaityparticipated in the first of four tours planned for the fifteen Junior Farmer groups of P. E. I.

This tour planned by the young people was directed by Morris Deacon, Fieldman, Department of Agriculture. It included visits to farms representing five different breeds of cattle, namely: Jerseys, Edison B. Mutch, North River; Herefords. Frank Sanderson. North River; Ayrshtres, Hon. W. F. Alan Stewart, Minister of Agriculture, Strsthgsrtney; Guernsey's, Harold Laird, Kelvin; Hoisteins, Allison Profitt. ‘Freetown, and Heath Mac- Leod, Irishtown.

The lost named farm was visit- ed especiaily to view the high-class registered swine.

Successful Field Day At iiustico

Completing 25 years service as an illustration station operator, Mr. John L. Clark. M.B.E., pre- sided yesterday over his last. offic- ial field day on his farm at Rus- tioo. During the day he was 'com- pllmented for the "splendid ser- .vice" he had rendered to his com- munity and Province.

Organized by W.N. Black. super- visor of Illustration Stations for PE. Island with his assistant, I.L. Tupiin, the clay was an outstanding success. Over 100 farmers followed an interesting and instructive programme on the 114 acre farm that. is producing some of the best ilmfllhy and crops in the Province.

Not the lea-st; enjoyable part of the programme was the unsched- uled appearance of the Inverness County farmers who are visiting the Island and were introduced by Mr. Harold Clay. Qlominion Depart- meni: of Agriculture. Gaelic songs, lively flddiin‘, pipin' and step. dancin‘ added a little spice to the day's proceedings.

Premier J. Walter Jones, guest speaker. noted that Island farm- ing showed more progress than that in other Provinces. l-Ie review- ed the early settlement of the Province and drew attention to the advantages of farmers co-operat- 10E to acquire the more expensive farm machinery. The premier com- plimented Mr. Black and the staff for their fine showing.

Father Francis Honored At Meeting

Rev. M. E. Francis, who resign- ed recently as director 0f the Ex- tension Department of St. Dun- stan's University because of ill health was honored last evening at the annual meeting of the P. E. I, Credit Union League at Ken- sington. On behalf of the Credit Union League and the Coopera- tive League ha was presented with a purse and watch by Mr. Cyrus Pctirlcr, president of the credit union league, and a compil- mentary address was read by Mr. Jerome O'Brien, president of the P. E I. Co-operative Ieague.

Father Francis in expressing his appreciation said that he was plea.- sed to know that what he had done was appreciated as he always felt that he fell short and was never able to do the work that he had in his heart to do.

At the Liberal convention held last. Thursday at North Bedeque, the following letter. addressed to M1‘. George MacKay, president of the East Prince Liherai Associa- tion. was read from Mr. Horace Wright:
