Black Forest Cafe

You have heard of Black Forest Cake, right? What about the Black Forest Cafe? A piece of Olde Germany is found in the heart of Olde Charlotte Towne. On Richmond Street, beside the artsy video store and across the street from the Confederation Centre Stage Entrance, is the Black Forest Cafe. The Cafe is one of the places to be seen if you are looking for the drink coffee and eat chocolate/drink wine and eat cheese/discuss theatre and music/drink any- thing and complain about your professors uni-

versity scene. the waitresses don’t even bring you a bill. Whenever you are ready to leave, go to the cash and tell the cashier what you have ordered.

Black Forest does serve dinner,and | have even seen people order it, but the desserts sitting in the front window and tempting passers- by arethe restaurant’s forte. They tasteas good as they look.

| rate Black Forest 4 cookies and one with a bite out of it. The only possible drawback is that the location is a little too far to get to between a class at | 1:30 anda lab at 1:30, if you are carless. It is definitely worth visiting on the weekend. Prices are excellent as well: a great alternative to garlic fingers when you are down to your last $5.

Cedar’s

Yup, Alter Ego beat me to this one too. Good taste guys! (Hint, hint: intercampus plug) | agree wholeheartedly with their review. Cedar’s is my favourite spot. Great atmosphere, and the food’s even better. One of the reasons | like it there so much is that Cedar’s is one of those places you can go with a friend, sit, drink coffee, and they don’t kick you out if you aren’t ordering a meal unlike some places around town. So go and check it out, especially during the daily lunch special. | highly recommend the falafal. | give Cedar’s a full 5 cookies. (Or 5 baklava would be more correct!)

Dairy Queen Everybody knows DQ has the best banana splits, but have you ever actually had real food there? (Well, if you can call fast food “real”) They have things other than ice cream... my favourite is the double full meal deal, which occasionally goes on sale for $3.99. For this amount plus tax (of course) you get a double burger -with real meat- fries, a pop, and ta-da! A sundae for dessert. Not bad, eh. (Forget the burger... | say just go get one of those incredible ice cream cakes...YUM. -AL) The only thing | have against the place is the amount of kids. Lots of them. And they are loud too. Service is fast, when they say “fast food” they mean it. | give them 3.50 (s.f. for all you science geeks) cookies. | like to order my sundae after I’ve had my meal, so DQ gives you a neat silver coin so you can come back and get your sundae whenever you feel like it. (I have 3 in my wallet right now.) Jennifer (science geek #2)
