That band of ball players known as the Giants, many l? whom are the leavings of other teams battled their way ' ti i‘ a finals in the Holy Redeemer 1-louse League by wsllcping Jack Kenneyb highly touted Dodgers 11-7. On the day's ,play the Ty connors’ team certainly deserved the victory, as they were in the ball game all the time and gave splendid support to their star hurlcr Ev. Toombs, Toombs, who recently has been hurling some splendid games. gave only B hits and set 11 batters, baok_to the bench via the strikeouts route. Sheppard, on the mound for the Dodgers was touched for tan safeties. He struck out 12 however and was not deserving of having such e high score chalked up ag- ainst him. The Dodgers made 8 glaring errors, thus enabling the Giants to win by a. comfortable margin. The Giants outfit made only one mistake during the en- tire game and looked like a real threat for championship honors.

Interest in this game was in- creased because oi an amusing side bet between the Giants’ hur- ler and the coach of the Dodgers. The coach of the Dodger toem, however. fared off badly and will favor the audience who will at- tend the musical entertainment in the Holy Redeemer hall next week with “Casey at - the Bat". Undoubtedly a huge number will attend to hear this young gentle- man fulfill his sporty bet.

The morning affair listed 12 innings end was productive of hard srgglng by both teams. The senators eked out the decision 14-13.-

Pat Malmr pitched the entire was shaky in the initial innings, settled down and had the Giants reaching all over the lot. Williams, who repinced Pineau, in the third allowed only four hits dur- ing his 7 innings. He was replac- ed by Toombs in the 10th.

The afternoon tussle saw the Giants even the series by slam- ming out l2 base hits and giving splendid support to their hurler Ev. Toombs. The score was 11-7.

Utah, Sept. 2—(A.P.)~Sir Malcolm Campbell-his bronzed features flocked with salt crystals and shilling happily-clambered out of his giant Bluebird today aftor a trial run on the saltbeds of Utah and announced he would attempt early, tomorrow to better the world's land speed record of 276.316 miles an hour he already holds.

The 50-year-old Englishman sent his low-horsepower machine roaring ovu- the salt beds at a clip of 240 miles an hour today.

The performance of "the old lady," as he affectionately calls his o; ' shaped racing car with its shovelnoee and huge finliko tall. satisfied him in every detail.
