This book is written by Marie Stevens Wood and every- one who is interesled in flower arrangement ’ will enjoy reading and studying. it is illustrated with thirtyitwo pictures, of her arrangements which have been point-scored by fourteen ‘of A- merica‘: outstanding Flower Show Judges and al-rangers.

John Taylor Arms has written the foreword. and he is a member of the American Aoademy of Arts and Letters, in the United States his societies number over fifty. and abroad all the important so- cieties and is also a member of the Canadian Painter-Etchers and Engravers. _ i

The object of a thoughtfully staged flower show is to advanci- the knowledge of horticulture. floriculture, landscaping and ar- ranging and to add to the fun of individual and community hap-

piness through beauty. A successful show means it great deal to many individuals

who attend it. some of them with- out gardens of their own and with small knowledge of the work and thought that goes into flower ar- ranging and staging a show. If even a few of these uninitiated are made more conscious of the beauty of the flower and their handling. their lives are thus en- riched. Like the ever widening circles caused by a stone thrown nitn ii lake, the inspiration they ‘receive lnust surcad to families. neighbors and friends. The opportunity to accomplish this awakening to beauty ~ and beauty is a path to happiness — is welcomed by judges and beauty loving workers in flower shows. The world around us is made bet-

This would seem to be the case because cortisone abolishes flare in the skin at the site of the injection. Another possibility is that the cortisone shields the sensory tnerve) endings against the effects of injury."

Dr. Cornbleet feels that if others will corroborate the results be ob- tained. pharmacists might want to include the corficoids tdrugs with adrenal action) with such painful medicaments as thiamine hydro- chloride and crude liver extract.

It is indeed unfortunate but not strange that this wonder drug acts so differently in so many cases. Thus we know of cases in which cortisone gives instant relief. par- ticularly ln cases of painful shoulder. and in others no relief from pain is obtained.

Physicians have learned that cortisone helps about half the cases ill which it is used. They have also learned that if the fil-st few doses of cortisone do not give relief from pain it is useiea to continue the injections. Other physicians have learned that the patient obtains relief from pain as long its the cortisolie continues to be used but the pain returns when the administration of cortisone is discontinued.

That cortisone allaya pain in other conditions is reported by practicing physicians; in fact. they have found that the results in sum.- cases can be lnitllfully called “mir- aculous." These cases include or- dinary striilria and sprains where in some cases results are obtained that are as effective as morphine.
