1n the Montague branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. as in iany other branch. the chief aim l and purpose is the welfare of :veterans and their dependents. .The concern is not only for its imemhers. but extends also to ‘those veterans who for some ireason or other have not joined the ranks of Legionaires. i But the welfare of veterans and the promotion of unity and comradesliip among them is not the only concern of the Monta- Branch. The branch has al- ways been interested in the pro- motion of sports in the com- munity. Their first venture in ,this field was the organization of the Provincial Championship ITug-‘O War Tournaments which were held in Montague from

11933-35. Since then they have al-

jways been in the forefront in ‘isports promotion and their pro- ijects at various times included sponsoring the minor iprogram. operating the Com- munity Rink. sponsoring track and field. ice sports programs and giving full support to other [projects such as the Montague ,minor baseball program.

The branch has also given lsupport to many worthy causes .and following the disastrous fire iin which the High School was destroyed provided on ters in their home for two _ciasses .intil the new school was fbuilt. Their facilities have also .been made available free of t 9 past 15 years or more.
