An Incident of Tuesday's Storm.
Narrow Escape of Mr, Palmer

On Tuesday evening, Messrs. Palmer and Baio started to cross the Strait from Cape Traverse in an open boat. The weather was hot and sultry, only gentle breaths of wind shading the placid surface of the sea. Friends warned the two that there was a dangerous lull in the air. But business was urgent, and they tock their chances
Foran hourtheir boat hung idly on the glassy bosom of the waters, making but little progress towards the far blue line of land that murked their destination. The southern sky was rapidly darkening, and the roll of distant thunder came on the stilly air. In mid-Strait the squall struck them. To head the boat to the flying spray and take down sail and reef was only the woik of a minute or two, and then the craft b re away before the breeze in splen- dids ye, giving fair hope of yet reaching land before dark set in. But the sky dark- eémd andthe wind rose with torrents f rain, and black night set in long before the voyagers reached land. Then not an} vbject could be distinguished, save when the fierce glare of lightning illumined the whole reach of sea and distant land
Grand beyond description, one of the gen-

ments. The foaming sea, the outlines of the distant land, the tumultuous heaveus shone with an unearthly glare for an in-
«tant that was the very acme of majestic
beauty amid the wild rage of the tempest.
Oa one occasion five flaming bolts simul-
taneously leaped from the sky into the sea
right ahead of them,
They now made for a light which they
supposed to that on Tormentine Pier. But
a clearer blaze of light revealed their mis-
take and showed that they were driving right onto a rocky coast. Mr. Palmer at
this stepped forward to shorten sail. A swelling roller lurched the boat, the sail
swung, caught the gentleman and hurled him into the seething sea. Bain instantly sprang and caught him. He grasped the guowale himself, and soaked to the skin
was soon in the boat again. They went ashore on a beach which proved to be sandy and about a mile east of the Pier. Ihey shouted loudly for assistance, which was was not long iu arriving. Mr. Glorie,
a lobster fishermen, came with a lantern
and assisted them to care for the boat. He kindly took them to his house where Palmer’s clothes were changed and he was cared for during the night. Mr. Bain pro- ceeded to the hotel a mile forward,and both
were ready for work in the morning.

King’s County Exhibition, 1892.
THE committee appointed conjointly by the Local Government and the King’s County Exhibition Association met at the Law Courts building, Georgetown, on Thursday, 16th June inst., for the purpose of revising the Prize List for the King’s County Exhibition for the present year. The committee included Hon. D. Gordon, Mal McDonald, John G. Scrimgeour, Cart- ney McLure, Cyrus Stewart, W H Prowse, John Lavers and Geo F Owen.
The Prizs List for 1891 was carefully re- viewed and the following alterations and additions were made :

Damage by Late Storms.
The storm on Tuesday night did consid- rable damage inthe country districts in he vicinity of Truro... A large barn be- onging tu Jacob Harvey, Brookfield, was truck by lightning and fell to the ground. t did not take fire, but collapsed and be- me a total wreck. There were 16 head f cattle and horses in the barn at the time and Harvey had to saw and cut away the timbers to get them out of the wreck ; ne cow only was killed. Before any help arrived Mr. Harvey had got out seven of the cattle and two horses. The barn was A new one and cost over $900, so that the loss is &® severe one; partially insured. Emerson Rutherford, of Middle Stewiaeke, lost three barns c ntaining nine cows and hree calves. They were struck by light- uing and burned to the ground. A new barn owned by Wm. Clowe, of Brooktisid was blown down. It was built last summer. Another barn at Brcokfield be- longing to Wm. Langille was blowa down. Thres heifers belonging to S. McCully, Debect, were struck by lightning while in the field near the house and killed. At Gay’s River, James Annand’s fine $800 barn was completely torn to pieces by lightning.

Lamplough was married in the morning to Miss Sadie Wilkins, and the couple started for Montreal. At Alexandria station the train hands exploded some fog signals in Lamplough’s honor. A fragment of a signa! struck him on the leg, inflicting a dangerous wound and necessitat- ing his being sent to the Montreal Hospital.
