Ch’town Council And Local 501 Sign Labor Agreement

What was termed by Hon. A.A. Maclsaac, Minister of Labor, as the final step towards the ac- ceptance of labor by the people of Charlottetown occured last night when officials of Local 501 Union and City Council signed a labor agreement involving civic employees.

Councillors received copies of the agreement In advance of the special meeting and the resolu- tion proposing the carrying of the bill was passed unaminously.

PAY TRIBUTE

A tribute to the work being done by Councillor H.E. Hynd- man over in Springhill during the present disaster was paid by Mav- or E.C. Johnstone Councillor Hyndman is part of the Island Red Cross team from the Island that arrived on the scene soon after the-Saint John Ambulance Corps. '

It was noted that upon reaching the Springbill community, the Island team set up camp and worked twice around the clout without rest, feeding and cloth- ing draegermen and the bare faced miners as they arose from the murky depths of the No. 2 Colliery. .

Mayor Johnston noted a re- quest firom the Kinsmen Club to spearhead a city-wide fund rais~ ing project with the assistance of other service clubs in the city.

Councillor A. Walthen Gaudct suggested that the $1,000 dons-- tion by the city to the Springhill Disaster Fund be remitted to the drive to augm at the campaign funds. The res lution put to the council from the floor was re- ceived unaminously. '
